I get heart palpitations daily and a racing heart because i think about my heart beating and it goes faster. I get chest pains and achey muscles too, and pins and needles come frequently to me too, not sure why. (I have panic disorder btw)

I was thinking of going to the doctors and asking if there’s anything they could do to help me, but wasn’t sure what they would even tell me or if they’d help me? I’ve read posts about magnesium tablets on here but im 17 and not sure if to take them or how many?? - i have health anxiety which affects me taking tablets.

Hello :-)

Really sorry that you are suffering especially at such a young age :-(

Have you spoken to family or friends about how bad you are feeling ?

Some do take Magnesium and have had excellent results from it but I certainly would speak with your Doctor first , tell them how you are feeling and ask them if they think ( as they have your medical history ) it would be ok to try Magnesium and take it from there , they may even offer you some Counselling to try and get to the root of what is causing your anxiety

As you can see you are not alone with how you feel which I hope in a small way helps but this will get better with the right support :-)

Take Care x

My family doesn’t know but a couple of friends do. I take an online cbt course to help my panic disorder, but my physical symptoms just haven’t gotten better.

I’ll see if the doctors will help me. Thank you for replying, it has helped!

Hello :-)

Not sure what relationship you have with your family and especially your Mum which if you do have a good relationship with her she could be a good support for you :-)

But I think that would be good to speak with your Doctor and maybe write down how you feel and how this is affecting you as appointments go so quick when we are in there we can feel anxious because we can feel under pressure to get it all out in a few minutes and then that can make us forget but if we have that paper in front of us we can go down the list and make sure we have told them everything that we need them to know :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

I do have a good relationship with her, but i feel like she wouldn’t understand and she would ask me lots of questions that I don’t even know the answer to. Plus she has problems to deal with already and I don’t want to be another one.

That is a good idea, I’ll do that! Thank you so much, I’ll keep you updated. 🙂 x

Hello again :-)

As a Mum of grown up adults as they are now no matter how many problems I have of my own and trust me all Mum's have them I would so want to help my Daughter if I thought she was suffering I would be devastated if I thought she could and had not come to me for help and yes we do ask questions part of the job description :-/ but you know you have just answered to me the truth you do not know yourself and if you said that to your Mum I am sure she would understand :-)

Won't push you though as you know best but think about it if not now maybe later when you are ready but remember that saying " Your Mum will always be your best friend " and when you have a good Mum trust me it always turns out that she is :-) x

Aozora, share your problem with your mum, that's what mum's are for, she most likely will be a helpful ally in your recovery.

You say you think about your heart beating and get those symptoms, that's not surprising. If I suddenly started thinking about the ear ache and kept checking to see if I had the ear ache then guess what: after a while I would begin to feel the ear ache. I had trained my brain to make me experience esr ache. That's what you're doing with your racing heart beats and aching chest, it's called auto suggestion.

If you could just accept the symptoms for the moment and don't attach so much importance to them you could find that your symptoms "die of neglect".

I think it's important to discuss this with your doctor for your own reassurance that this is anxiety, very rarely there can be some other cause so it's important to cover that.

Teenage years are very challenging and this can cause anxiety but if you stop indulging in so much introspection, stay calm and accept the symptoms without fear then before too long they should pass.

Thank you for your help!

I do try my best to ignore the physical symptoms but it is so difficult. I just hope they go away soon.

Aozora, The symptoms won't go away until you stop giving them importance beyond their normal meaning.

I know, it worked for me and it can for you ! Best to you! Howard
