I think after 5 months of talk therapy and a bunch of natural homeopathic remedies, I'm throwing in the towel. I was really hoping these things would work and I wouldn't need a prescription, but it hasn't worked. I have generalized anxiety, OCD and occasional panic attacks. What are good SSRI's for these? Personal experience would be nice to hear.
Medication???: I think after 5 months of... - Anxiety Support
Medication???
I too tried the natural approach and it wasn't working. I have gad agoraphobia and panic disorder I'm now on 40 mg citalopram and 2.5 mg of valium when needed.
Does the citalopram work well? How long until it worked? Is citalopram a benzodiazepine? Or SSRI?
It's an ssri, I have been on it 5 weeks tomorrow started on 20 mg, I feel a little better feel like I want to do things and with the small amount of valium I am able to go out without having a panic attack I have noticed I'm not dwelling on the small things anymore still have a wats to go but I think they are working!
I've been on sertraline (the generic version of Zoloft) for about four months now, and it's been a real lifesaver. I've got GAD and depression, and it works well in treating those, though I've read that it also works for OCD as well.
One thing I should warn you about is that SSRIs generally take around 4-8 weeks to fully kick in, and you might notice an increase in your symptoms during that time. This is a common side effect and it's completely normal. The first two weeks were an absolute nightmare for me as my anxiety went through the roof, but as I stuck it out and kept taking the pills the panic attacks eventually tapered off to the point where I'm completely panic-free now and back to my old self.
I would suggest sticking with the therapy even if you do decide to go on medication. That way you have a safety net just in case your anxiety becomes unbearable during the adjustment process.
Good luck! Hope you find a treatment that works for you. c:
