So I'm in a dellimah really bad. I have to drive to Tennessee tomorrow but I'm having anxiety About having to drive 278 miles on a 4 and a half hour trip. I know I can drive it but I'm worried about having a panic attack on the way down or when I get down there and not being able to drive back or some dumb thing.

Hi Armyguy, your anxious mind is putting you in that "what if" state. You are worrying about something that hasn't even happen and probably won't happen. While you are driving make sure you stop frequently to move your muscles by walking around. Also make sure you are hydrating. I always use deep breathing and blow out slowly like you would if you were smoking. You'd be surprised how that calms you down and keeps you in control. Remind yourself that during that 278 mile drive, help is as close as your phone should you need it. I suspect that you will be fine. You've been through harder things then this. Try to enjoy the drive. I recently told someone else on the forum to have a list of stops that you will be making every so many miles. As you reach that goal, check it off. It will give you a sense of accomplishment and not feel like a drag. Good Luck Armyguy. Let us know how you make out. Drive safe and Stay Positive. You can do it.

It was a journey to Hell but I made it there and back

Try slow breathing techniques, that may help you control your Anxiety.

I keep a bar of chocolate at my side and my wife keeps feeding me with it.

Are you travelling with anyone ? That can help

Take frequent breaks and have a walk around and a cup of coffee, your journey is not a race.

You could stop and take Relaxation Techniques Mindfulness is a one used today, you may not be able to achieve this time, although you may be able to get a book on Amazon explaining all to you

I know how you feel. For work I have to commute an hour each way and it sucks. I've used up all my sick time for the year because sometimes I can't bring myself to drive. Ugh. What has help me in the past is playing my favorite songs. Placing one hand on the back of my neck. (I know that sounds weird but it comforting to feel my hand on neck). I also talk to myself and plan things like goals or a trip. I also tell myself I can pull over at anytime.

It might be tough but you can do it!!!
