Hello

I am sorry your Sister is suffering with OCD this stems from anxiety and I know as I have suffered for years with anxiety and my main problem is my ocd

In what way does it affect you Sister as I know ocd affects us in different ways

I am still learning to try and work on my ocd , depending what severity of ocd you have you have to go very steady

It is something you have to keep working on there is no quick fix and your Sister would benefit with a course of therapy but not sure what you have on offer where you are as I am in the UK so again I cannot recommend a Doctor

Your Sister may get some support if just by knowing she is not alone if she joins on here and chats with others

If you put ocd in Goggle search engine you can get a lot of information about it which may help

I am really sorry I cannot help anymore but as said your Sister would always be welcome to come on & talk to us :-)

Take Care x

I am sorry ....we do have members that are living in India ?

All I can say is that we have to get to the root of what is behind our thinking to have started us down this path and then and it is a slow process we have to challenge the ocd but in very small steps

So say if just once a day when she is going to wash her hands because the ocd thoughts are telling her to do it , if she could start by just missing that one time out and telling herself that by not doing this just once will not make a difference to what ever the fear is behind the thought

It is really hard with ocd , she would benefit from someone working with her and supporting her & I am not sure how you will get that treatment but I do hope somehow you do and I wish you both the very best :-) x

Hello

I am in the UK and just not long ago started having some treatment

I have to say my ocd comes in all different ways from flicking on light switches to needing things in order etc and getting very distressed and upset if things are not done the way my mind feels they should be

I also have ocd with washing clothes , everything has to be spotless

Distraction can be good but not always the answer as your mind will still be on the ocd

So the first thing what happened with me was that I had to speak about myself

When I did a pattern came that basically I felt I had to be in control because of my past and the way I had slipped into feeling I was in control to protect me was by forming these ocd patterns

So then it was writing down what I did and why

For instance what was the reason I had to switch the light on every night on & of 7 times

The reason was because I believed something bad would happen if I did not do it

So we started with something small like that where I had to tell myself that nothing bad would happen if I did not do the light 7 times ....the first few times were awful but I would repeat nothing bad would happen till eventually I am now just switching it of normally ...so more I have to do on other things that I do & I have some bigger challenges left to over come with the ocd

This is why I say maybe if the main thing your Sister is doing is washing her hands if she could just drop of once in a day one time she does it telling herself nothing bad will happen & then when she feels comfortable she could look at dropping of another and so on ...all in her own time

Also I was told if I felt it was unbearable to say not switch the light on & of then to do it but to also tell myself that by doing it will not make a difference to something bad or good happening

Takes some practice and would be helpful if she had someone that could support her as you do need that support

Not sure if this makes any sense but again I wish her all the best ad let her know that this can be done , be gentle with herself and with every little achievement she manages to feel really proud :-) x

Thanks this will help many many thanks

You will need to make an appointment with a GP, your conditions may present in different ways.

For a local GP look on the NHS CHOICES site they have lists of GPs in your area. Also ways of treating your two conditions

You seem to be living in various countries so all I can say is that you both see medical professionals in your separate countries
