Yes Ive taken 30mg Mirtazipine for a few months now and have had considerable increase in my appetite and weight gain.

I think I am going to ask if I can have another sedating antidepressant to combat the weight gain as I have put on over a stone in weight, even though I started going to the gym twice a week and getting out a bit more.

Hi i tried several antidepressants in 2008 and 2009.Unfortunately all i got was loss of libido and over a stone in weight gain. The last med i took was mirtazapine.i never was told about such side affects by the GP.in fact before i took mirtazapine i emphasised i didnt want to gain weight.gp said nothing.at the end of my teather i saw a gp and explained the side affects.gp said "go to the gym."as you i trained often.in anger i threw all my meds away and never touched antidepressants again.mmm surprise surprise i lost over half a stone in a week after quitting.please not my action was drastic and i did have a seizure the night i quit.not recommended to go cold turkey.i didnt even find they helped sleep anyhow.now i practice mindfulness and i am getting treatment through combat stress for my ptsd.im sorry you are going through the same i did.i felt worse on meds cos weight gain than before!gp's just chuck all sorts of ad's at you trial and error and most know little about them.take care..you will get there.

I have been to the doctor and instead of changing he said to reduce my dose and go back in a week to keep an eye on my weight, but if the depression came back worse I will have to change meds completely. Thanks for your support. X

Your welcome, I doubt a lower dose will make difference....the med is laden with side affects as is even on the leaflet...a lot of gp's say antidepressants don't cause weight gain...I disagree and think its just so they can blame the person for not exercising....anyhow see how you go...a week aint long..take care

Sorry did I say a week I meant a month. I used to be on trazazone and that did not put weight on me but the doctor says I have to reduce my dose before changing medication.
