Okay, are you up for a pointless stupid question?

Nothing_but_books profile image

I'm betting no one has a good answer to this one, but what the heck, nothing ventured...

I'm not sleeping well at night for the last few weeks. Waking and half-waking all through the night.

Why:

The weather is miserably hot in the daytime and cold at night. I can't have the portable AC put in the window yet or the nights will be too cold for me and, even more so, too cold for my baby. 🦜

My house is poorly insulated and it's too hot to sleep peacefully with the window closed.

I'm trying to solve this one, but I suspect the solution is imaginary.

Any ideas?

Prize-winning stupidest Dove nest by the way.

sorry nothing comes to mind ( think the budgie will be warm enough though with the window open, put a cover over her .that’s a peregrine falcon nest and a wood pigeon is stealing some loot for its own looks like …I’ve got a tawny owl twit twoo ing outside my window keeping me awake now

I like your interpretation lots better than mine. I thought the dummy was building a nest. Looks like the Peregrine thinks so too. Or at least "What the heck? This is one dumb bird."

might be but I don’t think it will end well …..peregrines do love to snack on pigeon but perhaps the wood pigeon is too big as they’re like chickens

"An insolent pigeon." A very dumb pigeon. It took the falcon a moment to respond. "C'mon. I must be dreaming. No one's this dumb."😱

Female on eggs; I doubt the pigeon got away!

Bath time for Herman. 💜

Herman hates it

Oh no. Poor baby. Is there a way to make it cosier? Maybe snuggling in a warm moist towel instead of water? 🤷‍♀️

When he runs on his wheel he 💩 and pees. So his feet get very dirty. It's not so much the quills that need to be washed but he needs a foot bath.

I was going to suggest a fan also. Covering the bird is a good idea so you could open the window a bit. My mom covered her canary every night. She put him to bed same time every night. Routine…wonder where I got that from?🤔

Nothing_but_books profile image
Nothing_but_books in reply to CLB1125

I always cover her at night, but I wonder if a heavy blanket cover would let me open a window a crack. 🤷‍♀️

sleep in jeans and a teeshirt

I wonder where you got that idea?

Jeans in bed would kill me. I'd never get up again.

This sorta works for me and the cat; have a few large/2 liter *plastic* bottles of water in the freezer (only 7/8th full or they'll burst and NO glass). I swap them out over the day and place them by a fan for cooler airflow near the cat. Put them in a bowl if the condensation is too much and leaves puddles. Swap bottles as needed, I have several by the fan at a time. This sadly only works best in an isolated/closed space though... may be a little much for a small birb

This might be a stupid question….does your window unit have a temperature control and/or a fan speed control?

Shakespeare said that we learn by questioning. Or was it Orson Welles that said that? 😁

Orson Welles? Where'd that come from? I'm willing to attribute the quote to him if you say so.

I could easily set the AC control or turn it off at night, that's not the problem. If I put it in too early, 40 to 50 degree (F) air leaks in around the sides of the unit. Brrr.

Lol…..I was playing around. I pulled Shakespeare and Orson out of where the sun don’t shine. But Orson was great in his own.

Ouch….that would be a cold leak. I’ve got window units and I stuff socks around the edges of the unit . 😁

What a good idea! That could work.

I do realize Welles was a bit of an egotist. Guess I just ignore negativity in light of his genius.

Dad taught me via Socratic method. Would have been lovely if I'd been a bit older. Pretty much warped my childhood. He even put pebbles in my mouth, Demosthenes, remember? Hemlock would have been handy.

Agreed. The Pigeon seems to come up a bit short in the brains department. As the Falcon came back alone, I'm hoping he's now a sadder but wiser bird.
