I suffer from bad anxiety, and PTSD from childhood to now, and am 61 years old. I'd like to join this group to see what others do, or get new ideas on helping with these issues. I do mindfulness and breathing techniques, adult coloring. Can't do a lot of exercises because of DDD, and other back problems. And right now I know I'm watching too much TV. Also would like to know if you meet in person, as it would get me out of the house more.

Thank you for your answer. I see a psych doctor, a therapist for only 3 more weeks. I moved from MA to FL 7 months ago, and just getting used to new DR's is stressful. You have to have goals to have on going therapy here. I went to a hypnotist to try and quit smoking, but found out I couldn't be hypnotized. I am a recovering alcoholic, 9 years sober this August 31st. Even if I get tips, or listening to other people whose problems are similar, is therapeutic to me. Thanks

So I know I have anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, and 9 years sobriety as of August 31st. I was also diagnosed with MMD and bipolar. It's hard to remember user names and passwords. I am on a new med for bipolar, lamictal, and it's the best one I've ever been on. My anxiety and PTSD are the MAIN problems so I'd like to just start with those 2. But thanks for all the information!

Hi there and welcome to the group. No we don't meet up in person unfortunately but we could put something together on Zoom maybe that we could all get together that would be fun. I suffer from PTSD as well and I have major depressive disorder as well as adjustment disorder from childhood trauma. I was in my last battle of depression for four years straight which was way too long it was the hardest in my entire lifetime. I am just starting to see the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel so I can dig myself out of this depressive episode. What I do that's very helpful is journaling have you ever done that that's where you put your feelings down on paper whatever you may be feeling and they also have journals that have prompts in them if you have trouble figuring out what to write. Counseling is also helpful are you in counseling of any kind? During the pandemic I did cognitive behavioral therapy and in 2023 I did psychotherapy. My Psychotherapy was a lot more helpful to me and my therapist Dr. Michael Nover was Godsend to me. He was very helpful and kind and compassionate and that's the kind of therapist that you need in order to get through your problems. During my journaling I wrote both of my parents letters as my mother verbally emotionally and psychologically abused me when I was a teenager and my father physically abused me when I was younger and he also didn't protect me from my mother's wrath but instead went to bed and left me alone to deal with all of those problems by myself which was lonely and awful. I have a sister that's 2 years older than me and she didn't go through any of these things I was my mother's target. So I wrote both of them letters explaining what they did to me how it made me feel and at the end of both letters I forgave them both not for them but for me to begin my healing process.

Welcome to the community. We are happy to have you here with us.

The online forum set up works very well. I've been here for a few years and find it very helpful.

We have a site called Drink Free. You may want to check that out. There are some members here who have been sober for years.

To answer your question about zoom. Cookie2217 HU does not encourage using zoom meetings for safety reasons.
