Hi,
Has anyone with anxiety disorder flown on a plane after the diagnosis? If so, how was it. Did your medication help? I haven’t flown since 2011, so I am a bit fearful.
Hi,

I have flown many times after diagnosed. I found my medication helped me from going into a meltdown. However it doesn't exactly stop the scary thoughts. That's on you to check on yourself. Remind yourself that you are safe inside your own body. Sensations are just that sensations. They will pass. You have flown before and everything turned out okay. Also even if it's been a minute since the last time you have flown, remind yourself of the last time that you felt anxious and you got over it.
Perhaps taking some books and music along to help you with calming yourself.
May I recommend DARE: A New Way to End Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks by Barry McDonagh. There's also an app. It's free with in app stuff to purchase but the free version works just as well. It'll help you focus on the present and not get lost in the sea of thoughts.
Sometimes when I get nervous cause I get anxious when I feel trapped in a situation. Anxiety sensations make me nervous. I play a little game with myself. I listen to a song. If I can tough it out till the end. Well that means I can do another song. And see if I can make it till the end of that one without any incidents. Best part is you usually win. Because you realize none of the bad stuff happened like your anxiety said it would.
I wish you safe travels and hope it helps 🫂❤️
