The details do not matter except that I have been diagnosed with clinical depression in the past. My normal response to situations is to lie down and try to let the mental moment pass. This time I attempted to combine breathing exercises to cease ruminating thoughts. It is not the best approach. Normally long bike rides for at least 45 minutes seem to work.
I was wondering what activities work that might be done as alternatives.

For me I find putting together 3D wooden puzzles together. I have to really concentrate so I don't break a piece and have the right piece.
Yoga. I find it to work like breathing exercises but with added stretches 😂
My personal favorite video games. I usually play games that have a storyline. Like Stardew Valley or Red Dead Redemption 2. Such a wide spectrum 😂 But with Stardew I get to design my little farm. RDR2 I like hunting and fishing. I find the landscape to be very beautiful and those activities calming.
Seems like you need more intense levels of distraction. Running for me doesn't work bc a thought can stop the energy flow. Usually I need to bicycle bc the speed focuses my attention from anything internal.Maybe a class of yoga might help.
