Once again I’m worrying sick!😫 I have had bad upper back pain for nearly two weeks now and it just won’t go away. I’m 24 and have never had back pain before ...
I saw a DR yesterday and they just said it’s muscle, but as always I’m second guessing what they have said! I don’t remember hurting my back at all! And why is it taking so long to go away😫
I start a new job next week and I already can’t cope, no one at home seems to understand and they are just telling me to get on with it!

Hi Jayde x whether it's pain or illness that comes over us, the more we put fear
into the picture, the longer it can take for us to heal. I believe you that you are
experiencing pain, however there are many factors that can play into us not getting well.
I'm glad that you did go to the doctor. Now it's about taking care of your health anxiety issue which is concerns about your back pain being caused by a tumor.
Anxiety works in it's strange ways most of the time. A thought that comes to mind for me
is that you are starting a new job next week which is causing you to stress out more about the pain. The fact is that the new job may be causing you doubts and fears which is exacerbating your pain level.
Your mind is in a conflict now focusing in on the pain as well as worrying if you can handle
your new job. You can cope Jayde and you will tackle that new job but you need to put
yourself in a positive frame of mind this week. Believe in yourself that you have the power within you to overcome your pain or at least bring it down to a tolerable level.
Wishing you well on your new job. Try using some calming relaxation methods on YouTube.
Let me know if you need some help with suggestions. xx
Thank you so much for responding Agora! I just wish I could crack on like everyone else does🙄 ... my new job is working in a nursery which is what I have been aiming for so I was so happy to get it!
It’s 11hour shifts which is the longest I’ve ever done so I am super nervous! .. the back pain then started and now I’m scared I’m going to loose the job before I even start😔 xx
Getting a job that you have been aiming for and happy to get is what will pull you through this pain. I agree that 11 hour shifts are tough but it's nice when you are doing something you enjoy. The fact that you are super nervous (and who of us hasn't been when starting a new job) is contributing to what I think may be a muscle spasm in your back. I wouldn't be surprised if you were holding your body tense, shoulders up to your ears, walking and sitting in a "fight or flight" stance.
I use to get those trigger points/knots and what would help me is using heat to help relax
that tight muscle. A nice massage would help relieve the tightness and allow more blood
flow to that area. How about a nice relaxing bath or if you prefer a shower. The biggest helper is going to be changing your mind set to "I've waited so long to get this job and I'm not going to allow anxiety to stop me. I can't wait to hear about your first day
It is good that you have seen your doctor. Many (most) back problems are in fact due to muscle strains. You don't actually have to do anything to cause a muscle strain. It can be caused by a small movement that you are actually unaware of. This has happened to me several times. Try a hot shower letting the water run over your back. A heating pad can also help. Try to let that area of your back rest as much as possible. It should improve in a few days. Try not to worry. Trust your doctor.
Hi! Been having the same problem for months now, seeing a physiotherapist in a week as the doctor thinks it’s muscle related also, my spine hurts to touch and I did worry the same as you, however I’ve done so much reading about it and posture is the most common issue for upper back pain, which can also make it feel like your spine hurts, it can be something simple as how you stand, how you hold your head, sit, if you’re on your phone a lot that puts a lot of strain on your upper back. I’ve been doing some upper back strengthening exercises and stretches, definitely feels better after these but just don’t over do it, and it’ll take time to feel better! Take care ☺️ Xx
Hi thank you for replying, I was having a read last night and there’s a small muscle called the rhomboid and apparently it can cause a lot of pain if it’s strained and you don’t have to necessarily do anything to cause it..... it seems to be in the area where it’s hurting so I’m hoping it’s just that🤞🏽 it’s nice to know I’m not alone ... thank you xx
