has anyone here live in a intentional community?

ive recently been looking into cohousing or something like it as a possible way to get out of my rents place and be able to support myself. I like the idea of a tight knit community, having a sense of belonging, the lower environmental impact and the possibility of not needing to work full time in order to afford the cost of living (US). While im still doing my own research, ive never lived in one or know anyone that has. There’s probably better places to ask this but dosent hurt to try.

If you have, what did you like or not like about it?

what type of people do you think do best in these kinds of communities?

what do you think are the red flags to look out for when looking for a community?

was it worth trying/doing even if you didn’t stay and why?

is it difficult to keep relationships outside of the community?

(you dont have to answer all of them)

This is a great idea Kara. I like the idea of this alot but have no idea how to access such a community. I'm in the UK and we have fewer housing options sadly mostly due to being a lot smaller than the US. I wish you luck in finding what you're looking for and update please if you do find something.

if you’re interested, there’s ic.org. its a site that has a map of intentional communities in the world, including outside the US.
