I have previously spent 4 years on anti-depressants mostly sertraline but a brief spell on citalopram. I came off them a year ago and then in the last 6 months experienced terrible depression/anxiety and have also acquired levels of OCD and body dysmorphia.
Psychiatrist has recommended me going on Fluoxetine and I wondered if anyone could share any experiences.
I am particularly interested to hear any impact with weight gain as I gained a lot of weight in the time I was on medication before.
I was on Prozac for 10 years, I was scared when I first started it, thankfully the side affects were minor and funny, craving chocolate which I hardly ate, and milk, which I was lactose intolerant. They went away quickly and I did not gain any weight, I came off of it when I built up a tolerance and then went onto Zoloft, which also suited me well. I have had problems, last year when I was put on Mirtazapam to help me with sleep, food craving were awful, on 15 mg. I am now down to 7 1/2 mg and doing better with the food craving, I gained 20 lbs!!!! So I wish you well, Prozac is not supposed to cause weight gain, go on line and look it up. Hi I was on flx for a number of years I didn't find any side effects. I only came off it as thought became immune.
Most people start on 20mg taken in the morning. My weight remained the same every couple of years I go on a diet as I like pies and I lost weight the same way I would have without the flx.
I've only been on it for a year and it's working quite well for me. But you know everyone is different. So you'll have to see how it works for you. I haven't noticed any weight gain from that med.
