Shame and anxiety

I’m meeting a friend for coffee this morning. I’m afraid he’ll think I’ve changed since losing my job (I knew him at work.) I used to be a person who had a job, earned money, paid my own way. Now I’m out of a job, and what if I don’t find a new job? I’m now a person who lives on unemployment benefits and occasional help from my father and boyfriend. I’m so ashamed that I’m not part of the normal working world.

Friend: 1 : a person who has a strong liking for and trust in another person. 2 : a person who is not an enemy. Have no fear of seeing your friend! Plus, you've only been out of work for awhile now and you are trying to find work. Please don't be so hard on yourself.

You know work does not equal worth. You do what you can do when you can do it.

I spent 30 years at one company. Thought I'd be there forever and never be on unemployment but things changed and I left. At first I felt guilty about being on unemployment then I realized there's nothing bad about it, it's just there to help you until you find a new job.
