No confidence in healthcare.

I have become a pessimist. I have lost all confidence in our healthcare system. Doctors who you schedule an appointment with, you're really sick, and they spend maybe 4 minutes talking with you and say come back in 4 months. You call again and say somethings really wrong with me. Then I go to the ER and have 3 blood clots in my lungs. Hospitals who change your meds, fail to inform why, fail to get your consent and you almost die from the medicine because they don't consult with you the dangers of the meds, doctors who charge you 289.00 on the hospital bill for consultation, and did nothing more than say here's my card, come see me when you get out. Nurses who hand you the wrong dosage medication expect you to take it, even tho I clearly know I can't, it'll make me faint, argue and demand I take it then storm out of the room. Nurses who are too lazy to take tubes out of your neck from last nights operation, but would rather give you pain pills so you pass out and sleep and stop asking them to do it. I had never been sick. I never knew what it was to take strong meds, to be hospitalized. Now, I honestly believe that I will die from medical negligence before I die of heart failure. I honestly believe the wrong meds, the wrong dosages, the doctors not taking you seriously, is what is going to kill me.

I feel for your situation - you must be so worried! The state of medicine in many places is getting dire. I come from the UK but now live in France. The National Health Service in the UK has been getting very bad for many years now and although the French health system is much better, I can see it deteriorating before my eyes which is very concerning. Covid has a lot to answer for I fear.I firmly believe in making formal complaints when something has happened which is not right. Nurses not taking out drains is unforgivable and dangerous - make a formal complaint to the hospital concerned. The unfortunate situation since Covid is that many medical staff have either died or left having been pushed to their absolute limits of endurance (who could blame them?) and many medical establishments are functioning only by using agency staff, some of whom are barely competent. Therefore complaints make sure that really bad agency staff are looked into and hopefully not used again. Don’t stay quiet about your dreadful experiences - take action.

I wish I had a magic answer for your situation but I don’t unfortunately but having worked for the NHS in the UK I know that a written complaint has to be looked into so it is a start at least.

Bon courage!

I understand your concerns. As others have mentioned, it's not always any better in the UK.I have just read your profile. I was also medically retired. Are you able to go out, do voluntary work, say at a food bank, soup kitchen, in a charity shop. I found talking to a good therapist really helpful. Can you link in with your local church.

Tc and Good luck. My prayers are with you.

Hi there, I stumbled upon your post and it really made me think... I just hope you know that you are not alone on your medical odyssey. It is awful that the healthcare system has disappointed you so much that you feel so down.

As someone else has mentioned, I think that mental health support might be helpful. Looking for recommendations on trustworthy healthcare professionals might help too.

It is hard when you are left on your own to figure out what's best for you, but I hope that within yourself, there's still a bit of hope for a brighter future :)

Not sure if you'll find them of any use, but I was sent these links to check out. Perhaps they might be for you.
