Apixaban

I just wanted to thank everyone who had replied to my post about the effects of changing manufacturers of Apixaban.

After several calls to my doctor I have managed to get him to prescribe Eliquis Apixaban as I didn't have any nasty effects from it My usual pharmacy didn't stock it and were quite unhelp but I have found one that did and have now changed pharmacies.

So I'm back on the Eliquis Apixaban and feeling absolutely fine and relieved.

Thank you everyone.

Gloria

My pharmacy changed mine but I was happy to try. I did and I didn’t feel so good on the generic one. Luckily I have a brilliant pharmacy and when I told them they just reverted me back to Eliquis without a problem. Pleased you have yours back too.

So glad you have a good pharmacy and you got it sorted. Like you I was happy to try but it ended up with three different makes of apixaban and I just felt worse with each one. Luckily it is sorted now!

I was unaware that there was a generic version of Apixaban available. I thought the manufacturer had fiddled with the patents and extended the protection until 2026 at least. Am I wrong?

Sorry, I ‘m not sure about the USA but generic brands became available in the U.K. last year.

The manufacturer managed to push back the generic apixaban in the U.S. until at least 2026. That allows them to keep charging exorbitant prices, and depending on this year's major election results, they may be able to stave it off for even longer. Eliquis in the US can cost up to 10 times more than what apixaban costs in other countries. Currently Canadian-manufactured apixaban is about 80% cheaper than Eliquis in the US, I believe, but not, of course, if you are on Medicare, unless you're willing to pay out of pocket.

Thank you for sharing, Gloria - we’ve been waiting for the generic Eliquis, here in the US, and it’s helpful (if a bit discouraging) to hear that it might have different/worse side effects for many people.
