hi everyone

I’ve had one ablation already and waiting for 2nd as af recurred 9 months after 1st one - been on wait list about a year so far

I’m interested to hear feedback from anyone who has had a 2nd one and whether this lasted or potentially made things worse

Thanks

I had three over a four year period before my AF went away.

I've had three ablations, the first two didn't do much the third was better but I'm now in constant AF. Fortunately its only at a rate of 60-90bpm and not the sky high rates I used to get, so I can cope.

We all respond so differently to ablations. I think I let my AF go on unchecked for too long.

I’ve had 2 ablations in 3 years. Both didn’t stop the af.

First ablation lasted nearly 10 years even though I still had micro bouts and the odd prolonged event but I lived with it and didn't upset my life too much.

Now 5 years post second ablation. First two years were great with little sign of AF but definately not cured. Now not much has changed as I'm still getting short bursts and sometimes longer bouts but all seem to self convert.... so far. Overall though I can cope with it in my life.

Both ablations certainly made things better for me but like I say, still not a total cure.

Goodmorning , my first ablation was cryotherapy for pulmonary veins and this lasted 7 months . Second was radio frequency under anaesthetic and found that 3 of the pulmonary veins had reopened as a redo was performed . This one lasted about 8 months and I was back in persistent AF . Had cardioversion and put back on dronedarone and bisoprolol whilst waiting for ablation no 3 which would be looking for alternative areas in the heart . I’m now day 2 of this one , waited 18 months for it and my hope was to come off at least the dronedarone .

However , things didn’t go to plan and the EP was unable to fully isolate the superior venacava which was very positive for AF signals , reason being my anatomy meant it was too close to both the phrenic nerve to diaphragm and my SAN . He managed to isolate 75 % of the vein but the 25 % left he said would at some point definitely trigger AF . He went on to ablate the back wall and roof of the heart which were also symptomatic . So the ablation has been only partially successful and the EP feels it would be in my best interest to remain on the dronedarone longer term . This is very disappointing for me as my goal was to come off it . We shall see . I also need to lose more weight which may help in the long term , although after my first ablation I was well within the recommended BMI as I had lost 3 stone . Sadly it has crept back on with the stress of losing my Dad and caring for my palliative Mum . Amongst other life stressors . Big sigh ! Sorry for long post but it’s a long story !!
