High Potassium?

Hi all

Has anyone had High Potassium/Hyperkalemia and if so how did you feel. My last 4 blood tests have shown high potassium 5.5, 5.9, 6.3. I have also been having symptoms - odd heart-beats showing similar to LBBB - little m’s, but worse some episodes of horrible dizzyness feeling like I’ll pass out - really interested to hear from anyone and how you felt and how it was solved. feel like I need to get it down well below “high” to gauge whether this is the reason for how I’m feeling or if something else is the cause

Brief History - heart attack 2 1/2 years ago - all good, AFib and had ablation in December and no AFib for last 3 months, also Type 2 diabetic but fairly fit/active

Thanks all

Mick

6.3 is pretty high potassium. One can have symptoms of dizziness, diarrhea and palpitations. It also affects your kidneys. You must bring it down. Usually the treatment is to cut all high potassium foods from your diet and take K-binder, it will flush out the potassium immediately. Check with your doctor.

Inadvertently gave myself too much potassium. I had full on AFib for a week when had only had overnight previously and wondered why.

Then realised I had starting taking double magnesium taurate as heard that it was good for AFib just before. But when I thought about it, I had some in multi vitamin, some in epsom salt baths, some in water filter so was probably taking too much. Stopped the supplement for a while and AFib went.

Not your situation but just to say too much magnesium can help increase Afib

Hi, (AF since 1999, age 63, 2 ablations - last one Jan 23 for AF and A Tach) I recently started a carnivore diet in conjunction/connection with which I thought I'd try Dr Berg's electrolyte powder - very high elemental potassium content per scoop/serving - a couple of hours later I had a lot of ectopics and a couple of 2 or 3 minute runs at AT at 130bpm. A few days later I had bloods done and serum potassium was top of range. Pretty sure the electrolyte powder K pushed me into the aforementioned arrhythmia and haven't touched it since !

Hi

Get your Chemist to check your meds.

I was offered a CONSTIPATION med but I double checked with my usual Dr who arrived back.

It contained low potassium and my Dr said No you can't take that.

That's the first line of checking.

Try and keep it below 5. 5.5 needs an 'antidote' for too much Potassium.
