Covid vaccination April 2024 for over 75s

“The following vaccines are advised for use in all individuals aged 18 years and over:

Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA (Comirnaty) Omicron XBB.1.5 vaccine. Dose: 30 micrograms

Moderna mRNA (Spikevax) XBB.1.5 vaccine. Dose: 50 micrograms”

This extract is from the UK government website in February 2024.

Do you feel these are the correct type of vaccines based on the latest research? Apologies if this has already been discussed.

I wonder why they've stopped using the Astra Zeneca vaccine. Any ideas anyone?

Hmm just searched and found the answer myself.

Under the BBC News 9th November 2023

But within a few months of the AstraZeneca vaccine rollout, cases began emerging of a potential side effect from blood clots. And a condition known as vaccine-induced immune thrombosis and thrombocytopenia (VITT) was eventually identified.9 Nov 2023.

My nephew ended up with blood clots from Pfizer vaccine. Doctors insisted it wasn't and a thorough family investigation was underway to see if anyone else had the condition to create blood clots, we didn't. they just don't want to admit this type of vaccine is not good. Dr. Malone who was co creator of the mRNA said it has been available for years, however, they could never figure out how to administer without causing inflammation.

How can we possibly judge?

I’ve had bad reactions to Moderna in the past but last one I had was Pfitzer - spring 2023 and that was worst reaction yet so not intending to have any more as I am now questioning effectiveness and need for so many vaccinations.

What would you suggest?

I’ve had 3 Pfizer and 1 Moderna without any problems. I haven’t to my knowledge had Covid.

Like many here, I will base my decision on personal experience. So I will have either of the vaccines offered.

In the absence of research we can trust, I guess that’s all we can do.

I’ve had COVID 3 times, to my knowledge. I was very ill in the Oct 22 wave but survived the last illness last Nov very well with very mild symptoms and I am immune suppressed.

Same here, Pfizer caused myocarditis for me last year, so no more,!

Given your thinking and experience I wonder why you have put up the post? I fear I know where the discussion will lead and how can we possibly tell you more than the NHS and your lives experience?

I had all Pfizer and the cardiologist feels pretty certain that's what caused my arrhythmia events. However do we actually get a choice? When the last one was offered, there was only one type available in our area. You had absolutely no choice. You got whatever was delivered to the pharmacy.

Bunkular profile image
Bunkular in reply to Qualipop

If you had gotten Covid you may very well have gotten a much worse heart condition than arrhythmia. There's no way to know for sure.

Tomred profile image
Tomred in reply to Bunkular

And that was part of the selling point.

Tomred profile image
Tomred in reply to Qualipop

Why would you want a choice, whenever you believe it caused arrhythmia Qualipop .

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply to Tomred

I had 5 pfizer vaccines which the consultant was sure had caused it. The first event started within hours of my 5th booster. It's possible a different brand may not affect me like that but there was no choice. We could only get whatever was delivered.

Tomred profile image
Tomred in reply to Qualipop

WOW, 5, and you would consider more Qualipop, i have some friends who also developed afib after the shots, clearly a correlation,, i could say more but dont want to get into it, im surprised theyre still offering boosters.

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply to Tomred

I would have possibly considered one last time if I could have got a different brand but after the consultant advised against it after the last 4 days in hospital I will gracefully decline. I really don't want a repeat of that. One heart attack was quite enough.

I had a text from my surgery yesterday and have booked a booster for April .

I had a booster in September before my ablation in October but understand it may have provided reduced levels of immunity because I was taking a large dose of steroids for temporal arteritis at that time. I am still taking steroids but a much reduced dose.

There is a small level of risk with any vaccination but the prospect of catching Covid when I have AF (controlled by an ablation and flecainide) and asthma outweighs that small risk.

But do they even know the strain of Covid at this time? It continues to mutate like all viruses.

Silky57 profile image
Silky57 in reply to Peacefulneedshelp

Even if they know the current strain, formulation will have been based on an old strain.

The vaccines target XBB.1.5, a subvariant of Omicron that dominated the United States—and the world—from November 2021 until last year. The CDC says the updated vaccines should also work against currently circulating variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus—many of which descended from, or are related to, the XBB strain.”

The key word that jumps out at me is “should”.

Covid infection had a very bad impact on my AF as well as ectopics. I don’t recommend getting Covid for funsies.

Do we get the vax or do we have a party like they do in Downing street

Silky57 profile image
Silky57 in reply to Tomred

That’ll be the parties they held whilst our Health Secretary was telling aides to “frighten the pants off” the rest of us to ensure compliance with the rules he in turn was breaking.

I’m trying to get more information on the Novavax vaccine. All I know so far is that it’s more like the conventional vaccines we’re used to like the flu vaccines. Possibly fewer side-effects. It’s been approved for use in the uk.

No. I’m astonished anyone would willingly take that poison under any circumstances. The government can FRO.

I have never had any reaction to any of the vaccines I had - think I have had 7 now as has my wife. I continued in NSR after a successful cardioversion in Feb 2020 for 15 months and just went back into AF - again when picking up a heavy weight since then in permanent AF but getting on fine. My wife who doesn't have AF had a reaction to just 2 of the vaccines - the first one gave her fatigue for about 48 hours - she slept most of the first day and another one - I think it was the 4th gave her flu like symptoms. We also had Covid a year ago and although my wife tested positive for 18 days neither of us was very ill just fatigued all the time and we found it took a long time to shake the fatigue off. We are going to have all the vaccinations offered. Totally up to you and your experience whether you have the vaccinations or not as neither of us have had any reactions of great note we will continue to have them when offered.

No reaction, no worries! Lucky you and yours.Leave the big decisions to the rest of us who suffered!

No more for me! Too many vaccines dished out and too frequent. I caught covid in January and apart from a bit of tiredness and a headache didn't really suffer. Not being complacent but I haven't had any vaccines for covid since November 2022

I won’t have any more vaccines as after the last two I was so bad with my afib/tachycardia

Last time I had Pfizer snd before that it was Moderna

Travellingman76 profile image

good Afternoon, I am in my late 40s and in January have had a pace maker fitted. I have been told by two medical professionals that my health conditions could have been caused by covid AND OR the vaccines. I was vaccinated with Astra zenica twice. Within months of receiving my third Moderna vaccine I was experiencing episodes which perplexed the medical professional. It is of course everyone’s own choice to get vaccinated but I have read enough and been told enough to be wary of the vaccines which are still currently been investigated with regards to their efficiency despite then been rolled out to the general public.

Ennasti profile image
Ennasti in reply to Travellingman76

I was fine with AZ, but Moderna really caused my heart havoc. Pfizer did also but less than the Moderna. Some vaccines seem to affect some of us more than others. My cardiologist confirmed this and said if you’re prone to cardiac issues, both COVID and the vaccines can bring them out/exacerbate them. As with everything - it’s a risk equation and we all need to make our own choices based on personal medical advice regarding our specific risks.

You never hear a thing about covid at all ,I bet still hundreds are dying we don't hear a dickie bird though,I take the flu jab but not covid.

I remain quite astonished at the degree of division on this subject.

I visited an old school friend recently, who despite being far more intelligent than me, had not picked up on a single doubt as to whether the C-jab was actually beneficial.

Busy GPs and government advertising have no effect on me. What convinces me is high ranking doctors all-around the world who have lost their jobs and been cancelled for questioning the side effects and deaths.

Never had one shot and until much more positive brands become available, endorsed by doctors generally, not for me.

I had my COVID booster yesterday and am still here to tell the tale 😉

I have had all the available vaccination so far in spite of having a really bad reaction to the first booster dose (and reporting it on the yellow card scheme ) . The bad reaction was infinitely preferable to having COVID and being immobilised on a respirator in hospital or worse .

I must admit I was a bit apprehensive about having a reaction to the vaccination and possibly going back into the nightmare world of symptomatic persistent AF having had a partially successful ablation in October and being in NSR since January thanks to daily dose of Flecainide .
