Hi Giannie.
I too am on Sotalol but not experenced this. Here' a copy and paste that is worth noting.
if the throat tightness is severe, seek emergency medical attention immediately
Remember, only your healthcare provider can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current condition.
I guess the bottom line is to have a chat with your medic.
Happy New Year.

thank you very much for the immediate replyI've been taking 160mg a day for about 3 months now and there are some days when this feeling of tightness in the throat comes and it goes away after a few hours.
it's not every day and that makes an impression on me.
Happy New Year and thank you again
Hello Giannie, I had this on Sotalol, it’s one of my only noticeable symptoms of my heart problems. I get a tight feeling in my throat when having a lot of ectopic beats or AF. Sotalol was not working for me at the time & causing an increasing amount of ectopic beats. Covid was at its worst at that point & I couldn’t get help with this even privately, when I finally did get help it was a couple of days too late & I’d gone into persistent AF. That’s not to say this is your issue too I’m keen to add - but do you check your pulse or take a ecg whilst feeling this way & are there missing beats in the rhythm?
After coming off Sotalol I noticed how emotionless I had been on it too, I really didn’t realise at the time. Again, we’re all different & some people get on with it very well but that is my experience with it.
Best of luck. Stay strong!💪💪
Steve
Good morning Steve, thank you for your reply.knowing that other people have similar problems and are looking for solutions is helpful
I used to have the feeling of my neck being tight for a while, but it's not every day.
at that time I don't feel any arrhythmia that I can understand, the only thing for sure is that it's annoying
When you stopped the sotalol, what other medicine did they give you?
did it help you are you better?
Hi Giannie, I was put back on Bisoprolol that I got along very well with previously with the addition of Flecainide which I’m also happy with - that gives me some crazy dreams but they’re never bad and often quite amusing. I’m a little superstitious so don’t want to tempt fate but I am happy to stay on this combination…. 👍
Steve
maybe i should change ithowever, because I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy... I don't have many options in the medicines I can take
I used to take tenormin (atenolol) I never had any problems...but I started having a lot of extreme contractions..and sotalol helped me...but now with this feeling of tightness in my throat...I don't think I can take it continue
Hi Giannie, It really sounds like you need to speak to your specialist I think. There may be other options to try yet before having to settle for one that doesn’t agree with you.
Best of luck & a very Happy New Year to you.
Steve.
Not on sotalol but a tight throat is the first sign for me that my PAF is back in action, followed later by irregular heartbeat and shortness of breath on minor exertion. Another sign is increased irritability, according to my wife, but I never thought my grumpiness had different levels.
I'm on Sotalol and only get neck pains when I'm going into AF. It's a pain down each side of my neck and slightly in my jaw. It eases after half an hour or so.
I don't know how to describe different. For me ...its like someone... tight your throat not very hard...but... continuous...for hours...and suddenly....dissapeard this feeling...
I don't understand....because...it is not...every day...and i don't know...to stop or not sotalol..because...i believe thaa this medicine help me..70% in my problem.
Difficult...every day for all of us...to live..with the hearts problems...only us...can understand...how it is...to fight...for your every minute!
I have been on 100mg Sotalol and did experience shortness of breath and my fitness level dropped. I am a keen bike rider.
Anyway for the first 12 months I had no AFib episodes. Unfortunately they have returned and have had around 4 episodes in the last 2 weeks which have occurred while sleeping waking me up. I have gone back into sinus rhythm after a number of hours after each episode.
My cardiologist has prescribed 100mg of Flecainide and 180mg of Diltiazem which I am reluctant to take. I am now considering a cathadar abalation as I don’t want to continue with meditation.
