There is a research article in the news article section of the New Scientist that week saying that Taurine supplements may extend lifespan and health as we get older. 12,000 60 year olds were analysed and higher taurine levels correlated with better health and lower incidence of type 2 diabetes and reduced inflammation. Mice given supplements lived 12% longer and had increased strength and bone density also younger looking immune systems . Monkeys had healthier liver, body mass, immune system and bone density.

I've been taking Taurine supplements for a number of years now and do notice that I don't get ill as often as any of the rest of the family. Could just be I'm so old that my immune system has seen everything before of course. I'm going to keep taking the Taurine though.

All the best.

That's interesting Roy, I've been taking it for a few months now and certainly feel that I have more energy.

I experimented with Taurine about 6 years ago, I hadn’t researched it thoroughly enough though and discovered it can also regulate neuromuscular transmission so made life very complex for me so I stick to food sources - chicken, scallops, seaweed crisps - when I can get it etc.

As always - not nearly enough research on natural occurring compounds and their affect on health.

I suggest that American university article is out of date in relation to the New Scientist article. Also it concentrates mostly on breast milk. I'm a vegan as well, so a lot of your choices are not open to me. Also I'm 79 which is the kind of age to benefit most. Your choice though.

All the best.

I have been taking a small amount for 10 years included in a magnesium compound recommended by my London Naturopath. I won't be drinking Red Bull anytime soon though 😂 😇

I have been taking Magnesium Taurine since my Cardioversion almost 3 years ago and stayed in NSR. Therefore, I swear by these supplements as meds did not offer the same results! Please know that this is an individual effect and no one knows your body like yourself.

Hi Dee, what dosage do you take of taurine.

How much daily?

If you are asking me how much do I take it's a 1000 mg capsule.

The New Scientist article is not specific and wants more research into humans rather than primates.

All the best.

There has been a lot of research done on this for dogs, low taurine levels in their dry dog food was causing dilated cardiomyopthy in the US, there is new research coming out about taurine and heart health.
