My Apple watch

I have been extremely surprised today when I saw my EP at the hospital. My watch was recording that I had AF and I felt dizzy and breathless. However my ECG tracing in the hospital recorded that I was in sinus rhythm.

I have always trusted my watch but now in shock as it doesn’t seem very accurate.

Has anybody found this problem?

What was the time delay between the hospital ECG and the watch reading? A number of months back I woke up with an AF Flutter episode going all over the place ( 45-190 bpm ) and I recorded it on my Kardio ECG machine . Two hours later it had changed to AF whilst at hospital , the Flutter had stopped and the heart rate was a steady 140 bpm and after 24 hours needed an Amiodarone drip to finally stop it. I showed the Kardia reading to the doctor at the hospital and later when shown along with the hospital ECG to the consultant I was put down for a 3rd ablation. I also use a free phone app for heart rate ( called 85 heart rate ) which I asked the nurse to check its accuracy when beating at 140 and it was spot on!

After receiving the sinus rhythm ECG result my EP asked me to do another reading on my watch and it still said AF.

It was only about 15 minutes later.

I don’t understand why my watch was so inaccurate.

I think that what watches tell you is that they have directed that there are indications that you might be in AF.

"Nobody" really understands AF...

Is AF decreasing your blood pressure?

Is AF decreasing your blood flow?

Does AF make you suffer from Hypotension?

I think that one of the main things that watches detect is an irregular pulse rate, which may or may not indicate AF.

Does your watch produce ECGs?

Do you get p-waves?

Do you get a flat t-p?

My watch does produce ECGs. That’s where I got my reading from.

As to p- waves I think they are there but not sure what a flat t-p is on the readings.

Can you offer any more help?

Thank you. This is all new to me.
