Problems with pacemaker insertion

Had pacemaker fitted five weeks ago and readmitted later that day as ventricular lead had moved and caused pericardial effusion. So back to theatre and on both occasions found the experience horrendius to say the least. Pneumonia followed and then af (never had it before) but on meds for it and now my BP is very low. Anyone else had similar experience?

As this forum is predominantly for people with AF we have things the other way round usually. Try BHF forum which may be closer to your needs.

I have PM inserted 2018 & revision for LV lead after 8 months in 2019 & that was was uncomfortable during the replacement procedure but nothing more & now all working perfectly. I have special needs with autoimmune/neurological condition & had no infections thankfully.

Sounds as though you were very unfortunate, sorry it wasn’t such a positive experience for you.

PS - I’m the opposite- had very symptomatic AF for many years & had virtually no AF since PM insertion.

Hello Jenwren49 You mention that you are now on medication for your AF, and that now your blood pressure is low. Some AF medication can cause the BP to lower. What medication are you taking now? If you would prefer a more personal answer, you can email me, r.harris@afa.org.uk

About 8 weeks ago I had pacemaker fitted and afterwards had low BP and was not on any meds, except Xarelto Fortunately now my BP is within normal range. Even though I had no complications I did not consider my experience a walk in the park and it took weeks to feel that I had my stamina back. I have a fib and have tried various medications for it which I could not tolerate. Sorry to hear of your struggles but no doubt it will get better. Quite an adjustment for your heart to get used to the pacemaker and medications. Be sure your doctor knows what you’re going through. Best to you as you continue to recover.
