So the first time I was diagnosed of high blood pressure I had eating Chinese food I experienced pain in my chest. I ignored it first time and went and ate the same food about three times I'll experience chest pain. So I finally said it has to be something in the food. So my NP puts me on Amlodipine besylate 5mg to help regulate my blood pressure. Then one day I just felt like eating the Chinese food again went and bought the same food and that when I developed the AFib that very night. Could that be anything in the food that was causing my body for react like that or it's just me overthinking. May be the hydrogenated oil that they use to fry the chicken or the spices. I'm only 43

Hi Wannna40 let me tell you what happened to me, back in 2018 october i had fried chicken from the take-away shop, after minutes of eating it my heart shot up to 100bpm for almost 6 hours, i have never been right since the amount of events i had after eating fried chicken i can right a book about it, if i was you i stop eating that Chinese food if its making you like that.
Monsodium glutomate is the thing. Common knowledge amongst those who have been around AF for a while. You will learn lots of things like that on here. So now you know not to eat chinese food, drink alcohol or ever take ibuprofen, loose weight, stay well hydrated and lots of other things yet to learn.
MSG is the culprit for me too - had to stop all Chinese food after diagnosis. ☹️
Yes me too MSG is a no no. Shame as I Love Chinese food .
Alcohol and too much sugar ! ( stewed some pears and they were gorgeous so ate the lot!!!!!!!!that was a great mistake as I had put a lot of sugar in to make them less tart)) Good Luck . Jo
Check with the restaurant. Not all use MSG, so there may be hope, if that's a trigger for you.
MSG does it for me too. Shame because I have to make my own Chinese now. I also got sent into AF after ordering Southern Fried Chicken from an unknown takeaway on holiday. I bet they were using it too. Some dried savoury products contain MSG including most Bisto Gravy granules and sauces. It’s E621.
Never had a problem with Chinese food. For me it was caffiene, none alcoholic and alcoholic cider, energy drinks, tiredness, stress and dehydration all contributing as far as I know.
Hi Wanna
I experienced afib/palpitations for over a year until one day I research triggers and found one link to chinese food as I had the same issues as you after Chinese. it is the MSG. Many, Many people have this allergic reaction to MSG ( heart rhythm issues). Since then I did a ton of research to find the "hidden sources of MSG" and have changed my diet significantly. I read all labels now and eat much healthier in general now that i have become so aware of processed foods. Note that MSG can occur naturally in some foods as well (including shiitake mushrooms, and even Parmesan cheese for example) so i try to avoid these things.
I did have an ablation and resolved my Afib, but i avoid MSG whenever i can as i do not want it to come back.
hope this helps
I did read that you can drink LOTs of water to try and flush the MSG from your system if you accidentally encounter that again. (like getting salt out after eating too much pizza i suppose
MSG definitely makes me feel ill, I experienced increased HR after eating Chinese food way before I had AF, it's delineate off the menu now for me. It's used in lots of other foods too, like Doritos so I avoid them too.
The other biggy for me is sulphites so no more cider for me
MSG definitely a culprit for me but our local take away will cook it without if asked. Does lose some of the taste but better than nothing.
