This question is always being asked. Dr Sanjay Gupta recommends both Citrate and Taurate. So I guess it depends which one you find suits you the most. If you type magnesium in the search box at the top right of this page it will throw up all the many posts on here relating to it.
For may years I took the Citrate, not realising that it was the reason for my sore stomach. Now I use a spray magnesium and magnesium flakes in the bath.

I take citrate. I read various comments about both then looked on Amazon and chose what I thought was the best value for money.
I had been taking citrate, and was fine on it. For some reason, can’t quite remember why, I bought taurate a few weeks ago. The recommended dose was 4 tablets a day, but I decided to work up to that. First few days I took one tablet, and was ok, then a week ago, increased to 2 tablets. Within 2 days I had a huge increase in small AF episodes, upset stomach, aching and dizziness. Didn’t take any yesterday, and am feeling a bit better today.
I know it could be coincidence, so I will try again in a weeks time, but will go back to citrate next time!
I preferred citrate as I didn't think taurate worked for me in comparison
I'm on the opposite side of the fence on this one, I was taking citrate but was having stomach problems as well as very loose stools, so have switch to turate and so far fingers crossed the eptopics have been even less and the stomach a lot better, so I think try both and see what suits you.
I have been using Magnesium glycinate from Pure Encapsulations (I buy online through Amazon). Haven't had any AFIB in 6 months!
I believe there is an alternative that Dr Gupta talks about which is less likely to upset the stomach. Sorry I can't remember but Google Sanjay I am sure you will find a video explaining the different types. Best wishes
Magnesium glycinate
I take citrate. It also helps prevent kidney stones.
I take Taurate...2,000mg at 5pm and 11pm. Solgar brand. This used to be my worst times for AFib. Been taking it for 5 years.
I've tried several, and so far Magnesium Glycinate seems the best for me. I use Dr.s Best Chelated, but the pills are hard to swallow. I would like to find a comparable glycinate that is not so hard to swallow. I just purchased a bottle of Taurate to try, as I had read several people say it helped the ectopics best, but I haven't tried it yet. I also use a magnesium lotion often and that helps my muscle cramps a lot. I keep Magnesium Citrate around and we use it in place of a stool softener. All Magnesiums are not created equal! LOL, it's so confusing.
I tried both didn’t really notice any difference but my blood test results showed my kidney function deteriorated so wondering if they didn’t interact well with other medication
Apaxiban bisoprolol and ramipril
Haven’t taken the supplements for a week and have another blood test Wednesday so maybe we will see
