A lesson learned.

I went to a good friends wedding this weekend in lancashire where I lived until last year. Had a good time with old friends the night before and drank more than my usual one small glass of wine ( half a bottle). Yes you probably guessed, the following day (the wedding day ) the A.F. won over the flecanide and I spent the whole day and night in A.F. I was so angry with myself and have decided it is better not to bother with alcohol at all! Luckily my heart rate was mostly below 100 thanks to the bisoprolol. Just hope the photos don't show how mad I was. X

We've all done it, at least I did. Hope you still managed to have a good time anyway.

We are all allowed to make a mistake from time to time. Hope you are feeling better now

Frustrating, isn't it? I hope you feel better now though...

Hi,

I have been there myself ...prior to my Ablation five weeks ago..

Having given up Alcohol completely two months prior Ablation in order to get it out of my system together with exercise and healthy eating plan ...l wanted to do everything possible to give the Ablation a better chance of success..

I don't even think about Alcohol any more,it was a big part of my life for many years there was always a reason to celebrate or commiserate....I have a very addictive personality which l have had to struggle with all my life...

Maybe the addictive personality developed as a child studying music London College of Music and practicing and repetition for hours and hours on end developing a perfectionist persona...

Alcohol is one less addiction but l have still have plenty more left, none as self harming as Alcohol though thank goodness for that...Carol x

Thanks everyone. I did still have a good time. It was a great wedding. Carol, you sound just like me.x

Ooooooooh thank you it's good to recognise and not to be in denial of our own strengths and weaknesses .....To be open we can help others.....Cx

I've gone tee-total dedeottie because I would have drunk more than a glass on occasion. Haven't regretted it and feel a bit better for it. Nice to know I can drive any time I like if there's an emergency. Only downsides are I'm always driving if we go out with friends, and being with people who've had a bit is extremely annoying. Especially when they start laughing at things that aren't even funny!

K

Koll,

Certainly entertaining for me observing people now as " sober drunk"...but rather it be that way than the other way round....C

At least I'm in good company then. I just need to find something other than fruit juice to replace wine for my before dinner drink. I think there's been a thread on here before about this so I will do a search. Kill, sorry to hear that you and your wife can't come to the patients day.x

Thats why I gave up, because stuff like that happened too often. Better not to drink at all then get upset when it triggers my AF

I know it's hard when you really love a couple of glasses of wine ( ( I found it helped me to relax ) but I decided to cut out alcohol altogether. Sometimes I long for a glas of wine but , like most things , you do get used to it.

Hope you soon feel better.

I really miss my wine in the evenings and the very few times that I've been tempted to have a glass have ended in AF misery.

Dedeottie, having become sick to death of apple juice, I tried alcohol free wine and had bouts of ectopics for hours on the day following my indulgences :( If you can cope with it - and many people can - the most realistic AF wine (well named eh) I found is Sainsbury's. It comes in red, white and rose.

Hope you have recovered in mind and body and are feeling better. x

Hi dedeottie, A couple of months ago I was at a wedding, and we had had nothing but a small breakfast until the wedding meal at 4 pm. I didn't think about af, but it started as we sat down to the meal. I guessed it was because of lack of food all day. I struggled to eat the food, but actually the hunger won out and I was able to eat a reasonable quantity. Three hours later I managed a Scottish reel, and felt fine. I was luckier than you, but at least we've both learned one of the triggers! Take care, JanR
