I have Advanced prostate cancer. Prostate removed, radiation, lupron for the last 4 years,

Now I am on abiraterone with the lupron, because PSA was up . See Dr in Feb to see if PSA is stable

Is anyone else on the 2 drugs

Thank you Mark

My husband was on Lupron/Xtandi for his advanced PCa. He had many SEs from Xtandi (restless leg syndrome, fluid retention, spasms in his esophagus from a tic, anxiety, etc.) and the Lupron began causing memory issues. MO offered abiraterone in place of Xtandi but he declined because it could cause more cardiac issues and he has CHF and implanted defib. He had his 2nd recurrence last spring and stopped all treatment after his last Lupron shot in April 2023. His memory issues improved and except for fatigue, the SEs from Xtandi have greatly diminished. The MO initially told us that the drugs would work until they simply didn't because the PCa eventually outsmarts them. He was also offered bisphosphonate therapy (causes necrosis of jaw) and chemo but was tired of all the SEs since he is apparently susceptible to them. With the 2nd recurrence he saw the writing on the wall and is now with palliative care. We also think the ADT further weakened his heart. Best of luck with your treatment choices.

I was on both Lupron and abiraterone for a total of 16 months. At the 8 month mark I started to experience high blood pressure, and was taken off of the abiraterone for a couple of months. Tried it again with the same result at 8 months.

I didn't think that the abiraterone was bad, but my wife says it sis change my personality some, and not for the better. When I first started I was a little incontinent, and the abi made that much worse. Took a while to get over it.

I'm still on Lupron, but I don't think that I will return to abiraterone....

Yes- many of us. And, I assume you take prednisone also. I was diagnosed 11+ yrs ago and after taking Lupron for about 6 yrs, along with abiraterone ( during which time I also took 3 vacations) I have been on both now for the last 5+ yrs continuously.

The side effects are significant (including a total lack of sex drive) but, I deal with them, play Pickleball, tennis, golf and most importantly spend time with my wife and 3 boys.

I consider myself fortunate to have been able to see my young boys grow up to become young men.
