Does anyone have experience with IRECT?
IRECT - IRE WITH ELECTRO-CHEMOTHERAPY - Advanced Prostate...
IRECT - IRE WITH ELECTRO-CHEMOTHERAPY
A common side effect is urinary retention.
I have used vitus on several occasions, for biopsy and IRE, but not with the addition of ELECTRO-CHEMOTHERAPY.. I can only think this bolsters the whole process as described in the link.
I have found them to be a very professional clinic and would recommend.
Good luck with whatever you go with 👍👍!
I had IRECT at Vitus several years ago. They place needles to define a treatment area, the size is limited. Then high voltage, low amperage electrical current is applied. This is the IRE and depending on the voltage holes are opened in cell walls inside this field that can can be large enough to cause immediate death or are small enough that cells can repair themselves. With IRECT it is the second. The area is flooded with, in my case, an old line cancer drug, bleomycin. The affected cells have no alternative but to take in the drug. When they try to reproduce, they then die.
There was some question about whether my cancer was fully contained in prostate and whether the electrical field would be large enough to treat the entire mass. I decided to to try the procedure anyway. The advantages of preservation of nerves and blood vessels seemed worth a shot. It was not definitive. PSA was 30 and within a few months dropped to 3 and then began increasing again.
The doctors at Vitus were knowledgeable and as another poster pointed out, professional. If I had any complaint it would be that communication after I had returned home was difficult and they didn't have much interest in follow up. Also, though they advised that travel home would be possible the day after, I would plan to stay a few days after the procedure.
Treatment at Vitus could be a good decision, especially if one's cancer is still fairly small. The people are nice and I received excellent care while I was there.
