Can changing how we think and what we do affect our quality of life (QOL)? Each one of us has to decide for ourselves.
Oxford dictionary describes QOL as the standard of health, comfort, and happiness.
For some of us, we don't have the health, money, or opportunity to travel any distance, either short or long. Some in here post those trips as their QOL and I enjoy looking at them, but not all of us can or want to do that. perhaps I can suggest other ways we can achieve QOL? It is your choice.
1. As a nutritionist, I would advise focusing on healthy eating. and address any nutritional deficiencies.
2. Spend time in nature.
3, Practice "grounding" which is walking barefooted on the earth. (If you get the chance look up grounding to see all the health benefits).
4. Alter your way of thinking. Be more positive.
5. Read
6. Listen to music and/or learn a musical instrument.
7. Draw or paint.
8. Help another. Helping is healing.
9. Practice personal hygiene and get dressed each day. Staying in your PJs and robe is not always a good thing to do.
10. Exercise, Walking is free and easy with so many health benefits.
11. Take pictures with a camera or cell phone camera.
12. Pray or meditate.
13. Mindful breathing.
14. Say a mantra. Mine is "I am healing, healthy and happy,"
15. "Your wound/cancer is not your fault, but your healing is your responsibility," (unknown)
" There is a crack in everything. that's how the light gets in" (Lenard Cohen)
" Be the rainbow in the storm of life. The evening beam that smiles the clouds away and tints tomorrow with prophetic rays." (Lord Byron)

I like your post a lot. The other, huge thing I would add, or perhaps to magnify (#12) is to pray. I realize that not everyone on this forum is religious or Christian. Every morning I walk out my side back door (with my Sheltie dogs), look at the sunrise, and thank God for giving me another day pain free and standing upright. I always think of good memories and I ask God to help me release past regrets. I mention that the future isnβt guaranteed to anyone regardless of health or $$. Finally, I ask God to help me make today a great day and to allow me to be a positive influence on everyone I interact with,
I donβt know how I would ever deal with my cancer situation if I didnβt believe in an afterlife. I pray for all of you like me who are afflicted with this disease. Regardless of your religious leanings, I hope this post allows you time to think on this.
If you are interested in what Iβm communicating here, a couple of great reads on the topic are:
thank you Bret5 for your support and kindness. I love dogs and grew up with shelties. We always had rescue dogs as an adult but our last two passed away last year and itβs been a tough time for us
Like your list as well! It is difficult at first, but once you learn, living consciously (in the present moment) can provide insights and comfort but more importantly can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
Thoughts to ponder. We are all unique snow flakes that respond differently. Why some rise to the occasion while others struggle will be a question for the ages. Great post!
Yes Ramp 7 I agree and wonder why some struggle and others donβt seem to as much, I think perhaps itβs a combination of genetics and lifestyle factors but I donβt know
I think the #1 factor is someone has to have a reason to fight on or even be positive. Guys who are divorced and distant from children or family will certainly not have the same reasons to struggle as those with a wife/SO and good relationships with children and family. Golf buddies or charity work are pale substitutes for family or SO (significant other).
I agree with you. I think many people donβt have a sufficient amount of support due to many factors but being alone and or isolated from your family/children is huge. Believe me I understand. Itβs so frustrating π
Thank you. I read it and the idea is good but not sure what youβre looking for exactly health wise π
Perhaps if you wanted to write me more information about your particular issues I could understand what youβre trying to accomplish, I would be better able to help help you. Feel free to write me any time
...the mind is a powerful thing, the best defense we have against much of what ails us, but it takes focus, discipline and perseverance to make it work for us...the 'science' is in and there is no doubt that, should put mind over matter to work, it will help...hard work though for sure. It will never and should never replace medical care and medication, but its clear to me that it helps us heal and makes our treatments work better...Rick
Before you fall asleep at night, reflect on your day and find one item to be grateful about. I've heard somewhere that feeling gratitude towards something makes your immune system work more efficiently.
