Wondering about a member who was in a clinical trial, doing great and as he stated brashly ended the treatment to see what would happen.

I can't remember the trial or the member but perhaps he will see this, he was supposed to have another PSA Test in Oct and update us.

Hello,

That may or may not have been me. I was recently accepted into the SPLASH trial. Before seeing the clinical trial doctor the trial nurse wanted me to discontinue my use of Xtandi (enzalutamide). This was a drug I had been on for five years and a couple of months. I always thought if I had to stop Xtandi it would be a gradual process. In other words, dropping a pill every couple of weeks. Nope, "cold turkey". They wanted to flush the drug out of my system prior to the start of the trial. Because I am not sure if the folks at BioPharma would share their results with me I decided to have one more PSA test to serve as a kind of baseline prior to the start of the trial. Prior to this test it was 2.9 and climbing steadily. My test at the end of October came in at 0.29. That is a significant drop for only two weeks. Ten days later I had another PSA test. The result was 0.22. A third PSA test is in the works. Now I am wondering if the trial folks are going to drop me. I find out tomorrow (Thursday). Hope that helps!

Unknown58 posted that he dropped the trial infusions on the AMG-509 trial if that is any help.

I dropped from a clinical trial.

One can drop from a clinical trial at any time. One just have to tell the people running the trial. Nothing will happen, perhaps some pressure to continue with the trial.

If one drops because an adverse event, they may offer consultations with specialized doctors who could help with the problem.

The offered me to be admitted to the hospital and be studied by a bunch of specialists at no cost. I refused and look for diagnosis and treatment locally.

Like any other treatment, a clinical trial is not a commitment for life. One starts any treatment and after a while one has to decide and consult about continuing or stopping..
