Like so many of us, since my RP five years ago I’ve dealt with urinary incontinence ever since. Two years after the RP I had a urinary sling installed —BIG mistake—it failed to resolve the problem so I had an artificial urinary spinchter installed and it solved the problem except for annoying drips which occur when I happen to put pressure on the cuff while sitting or when I sneeze, exert myself physically, etc.

I hate wearing depends on hot days because they are uncomfortable and I sweat easily. I bought some washable underwear and although they’re more comfortable, they do nothing for the dripping. Plus, at times the smell of urine can be detected. Recently I discovered a pretty good solution.

While Googling for a solution I discovered there are small pouches which fit around the head and part of the shaft of the penis and are secured on by adhesive strips. The ones I prefer will hold up to two ounces of urine and are quite comfortable. They’re far less expensive than diapers and spares can be carried in my pocket without being noticed. It’s still necessary to wear the absorbable underwear but so far, the pouches have not failed or leaked out. If you’re interested try googling, Male drip pouches or Male drip protection.

By the way, I’m not referring to the clamps many of us have tried. Those are too darn painful. Good luck!

Hi Miket218 I’m in the same boat as you. I had my AUS implant 8-2018. This was the best decision I have made. I use Depend Shields Light for drips. I wear one when I go out, most of the time I might have a few drips in one during the day, however if I sneeze, cough or pick up something heavy I will drip a little more. I keep my bladder as empty as I can, this helps. You might want too try some.

I’m sorry you’re not completely dry with your AUS, but I don’t think any of us are. Of course it’s so superior to the other alternatives for heavy incontinence that I imagine most of us give it little thought.

I leak very small amounts too, mostly when exercising, so I just put a small cloth towel in front of the pad when I work out. The rest of the time I trust a pad, which lasts all day and barely gets wet.

if you’re wearing depends would say either the AUS isn’t working properly or you are just unlucky. A pad a day theoretically should be enough.

That you may be bothered by the leaking I can understand. However, again for me I just feel compared to the ordeal of total incontinence the AUS is so good that’s it’s the smallest price to pay. Glad you found something that works for you.

thanks! Had no idea these were around. I also use rewash undies n love them. But I also leak mostly late in day. Getting better at 2.5 years lost RP but I leaked going into RT and it will most likely continue this way ‘for the duration.’ I choose to treat as I had 4-5 at he margins n no one could assure me cells would not migrate while under ADT for another 6 months or who knows how long.

The other thing u confirmed and which I asked was whether an AUS will make u “dry” meaning zero pads. What I read is what u experienced; it won’t in most cases. So ur post helps me.

Am getting implant in 2 months and want to see if that helps with the low leaks. Plan to keep it slightly pumped up. Has anyone had experience with this approach?

thanks for the tip Miket. I recently went through some late radiation cystitis with retention. Many catheters later including a 22ga. One has sent me into some bad incontinence. From one pad a day to two or three , so I am looking for a better solution. Thanks
