All PETs have false positives.

Here's information about the Axumin scan:

I don’t know why he is sending his to urology or would that be the normal thing to do-

in reply to Chris52981

What is his treatment history and what is the specific purpose of the scan at this time?

I ordered urinalysis, urine cytology and a visit with urology (Dr. Williams saw him previuosly) to evaluate. He had no symptoms of concern. It is an unusual location for this to be prostate cancer related (but I can't exclude that).

Overall, his scan was very favorable showing improvement/response to treatment. Given his symptoms, favorable psa trend since starting medication last year, I recommended he continue his current treatment and see urology for follow-up.

Sounds like he should have a Medical Onologist. Does he have one?

Yes he does this was an Axumin scan to evaluate how tx was- it said everything was going well snd responding also his psa is decreasing , he has been on Zytiga Xgeva and lupron since biochemical reoccurs showed bone mets last year- when he got Axumin scan everything showing clearing but there was focal intense uptake on anterior wall of bladder- he had appt with MO today he said it’s not common for prostate to go there and with everything clearing up it would be uncommon- so he referred toUrology and orders a urinalysis and another urine test that looks

For cells- my question is why couldn’t it just be a false positive or does Axumin scans pick up other cancers beside prostate- I’m

Confused- this focal uptake was not on his last scan-

year old man with prostate cancer presenting for consultation. He has castration sensitive disease with high risk features including high gleason score and multiple bone lesions.

He has been on medical therapy with lupron as well as abiratyerone/prednisone. His psa has responded well, overall his scan is favorable (including favorable bone change which I reviewed with him today). He does have an indeterminate area of abnormal uptake in the anterior aspect of the bladder (not clear to me that this has any relationship to his prostate cancer). He had some voiding symptoms prior to the scan, but none now. I will check urinalysis and urine cytology. I have reached out to Dr. Williams and will appreciate his follow-up opinion on this issue

My concern is a different typeOf bladder cancer not with prostate

in reply to Chris52981

I biopsy can be done to determine that.

Yes I just don’t get why that would show up on Axumin

Axumin scan is not specific for PC. Other cancers and pathological processes such as inflammation can show in an Axumin scan.
