Why is Trelstar (triptorelin) so rarely prescribed in the US? It appears to be the first choice agonist in the UK.

Certainly money (& a favorable negotiated price) is important to the NHS.

In a UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) paper, one reads of "the incremental cost effectiveness ratio (ICER) for" ABC "compared with" XYZ "per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) gained".

But there is also this:

"No statistically significant differences were found for OS in the NMA, however, the forest plot showed that leuprorelin and goserelin were associated with increased mortality compared with degarelix, whilst mortality for triptorelin appeared to be lower than degarelix.".

Lower mortality works for me.

Thanks to borarah, some U.S. patients may be asking the same question. i.e. "Why is Trelstar (triptorelin) so rarely prescribed in the US?"

I doubt it's money. I looked up who has the rights to trelstar and it's a Swiss company so my first thought is allegiance to a European company. In the end, lupron and trelstar work the same.

When I said money, I meant the USdrug companies don't want drugs from other countries cutting into their profits.
