It is listed as a rare side effect affecting less than 5% of patients taking it.

Thank you so much. I’m on 10g Lisinopril and usually 135/80. I was recently diagnosed w pc and just had fiducials placed (spaceoar next week) so I’ve been anxious. Will talk to pcc about increasing Lisinopril dosage etc. Thx again.

So I guess that you are going for RT soon :)

FYI - my BP bounced around for a few weeks after starting Eligard (Leuprolide Acetate - sub cut Lupron) until I found out that there may be a Major conflict between my beta blocker (Sotalol) and Eligard. (possible elongated QT interval issue)

I actually lost 10lbs since starting Eligard and now have a BMI of 23 so the rising BP that I experienced was definitely not due to weight gain.

If I may be so arrogant as to give you a TIP:

TIP:

1. Use the Drugs.com (or similar) website to find any issues between the various drugs you are taking.

2. If you find an issue then call your GP or Specialist Doctor and tell them that there may be an issue - I can almost guarantee you that they will not have researched YOUR possible medication conflicts on their own volition.

Look after yourself my friend because you are the only one with enough 'skin in the game' that really can.

I had to go to 20mg for the time I was on zytiga. Never got that high but 145/90 at times. Headaches were my sign.

Its Zytiga which is notorious for causing high blood pressure...not lupron.

Very low T converts muscles into fatty tissue...so weight loss (fat loss) is necessary .

Eating less calories and a lot of physical activity still causes weight loss and in turn, ends up

into lower B P. Reducing Sodium and switching to Low Sodium salt substitutes might help.

My blood pressure shot up when I was on Firmagon without adding any weight.

With the help of my friendly medicin I put myself on 300mg of Irbesartan and 10mg of Amlodipine and it fell pretty quickly.

I am off the Firmagon now and it is slightly below the normal range.

You do have to watch rising blood pressure and blood sugar when on ADT, it can be a nasty side effect for some men that some urologists do not seem that aware of.

Unfortunately, ADT in general, including the newer drugs, creates unfavorable effects on blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol; I have been on ADT for a year and have experienced a dramatic rise in all three as a 30-year, insulin-dependent diabetic. Here is a 2019 article from the American College of Cardiology explaining these downsides of ADT and how to work with your doctor to minimize your personal risk:

Hope this is helpful.

My BP increased while on Lupron. Cardiologist increased Metropolo from 50 to 75mg/day. Did Lupron/low T cause the increase? No way to know but seems like a reasonable conclusion to me.

My experience with ADT was tantamount to torture. Going into an appt with my MO, my BP was 240/130, but I believe this was purely because I was so upset and so angry that I couldn't die in my sleep.

Good gosh. I hope you've calmed a little. Maybe a little humor will help. You go by Horse12888 because your license was yanked for road rage. And, just to piss j-o-h-n off, I'm assuming you are a republican. I hope the upset and anger is in the past. If not, please reach out. Someone will be there. Wishing you the best. Monte

Ha! And thanks very much. Yes, I quit ADT and got on antidepressants, and I feel like my old self again. Very kind of you to write.

I was living in terror of a recurrence, but I've even chilled out on that, given the success of transdermal estradiol (tE2).

Do you live in the U.S.? Was the transdermal estradiol (tE2) approved by Medicare for the the recurrence?

Horse12888 profile image
Horse12888 in reply to Exrunner

Yes, I live in the US, and no, tE2 isn't FDA approved, but it's dirt cheap.

In fact, a cynical mind might infer the the facts that it's dirt cheap may be the reason that it's not approved.

I keep thinking of a way to communicate to Lupron sufferers that tE2 exists, that it's not inferior, and that it's FAR more tolerable. The problem may be that those with a platform don't want to piss off the medical establishment.

How did you get your doctor to write a prescription for the transdermal estradiol (tE2). I discussed it with my doctor and he was not receptive to the idea...SOC.

I see him in June and hope to have enough information that I can convince him to allow me to try.

Thanks

It's possible that you'll need a new doctor. I have two MOs. One is very doctrinaire and rigid, and won't even discuss subjects like this. The other would prescribe injections of disinfectants if I asked her to. JK, but she's completely fine on my trying anything as long as it makes some level of sense.

I have been on Lupron for almost three months now; my blood pressure remains low at 116/60 on average. Daily exercise has been helpful (45 minutes rowing, weight lifting).

in reply to Max225

116/60 really? I’d guess you are the first 20 year old to get PC.

That’s good, funny. Turning 67 in July. Last night, probably because of anxiety about my procedure today, I hit 140/85. Back to normal today. I’ll have another gin and tonic now.

Cheers.

P.S. When things go back to normal, see if you can do sauna thrice a week. It lowered my blood pressure 3 years ago and kept it a low levels since then. Got to get that very cold shower after the sauna, however.
