Hi there just an FYI. My husband has been on 30 mg Lupron 30 mg every 4 months. He tolerated it well until December but that injection in the glut resulted in extreme discomfort selling tenderness to that area. We thought it was a one time thing. As he had done well with side affects nominal. Also psa 0.02. And it slowly resolved. The injection in April was given to outer hip and unfortunately the entire thigh became swollen with pain discomfort on steps. Not a dvt. Md decided to change to firmigan. Taking some benedryl. But if he repeats itself it will tAke several weeks to heal. Md said this is very unusual and do t remember reading about on this post

The first couple of Firmagon injections are the worst. But monthly injections are not ideal at this time. Maybe he will have less of an allergic reaction to the vehicle used in Eligard or one of the other GnRH agonists, like Zoladex, or there is a once-a-year leuprolide pellet called Viadur.

Thank you for generous and insightful reply!

Thanks for posting this. It just goes to show us all how differently each one of us can react to things. I did Lupron for 18 months. I started with a one month Firmagon shot. It took my PSA down to undetectable from my high score of 20.. Every Lupron shot I recieved was given into the abs. Some soreness for week or so maybe. ? I quit Lupron shots and opted out for an orchiectomy . I’m still on a defunct test adt drug that combined with the orchiectomy have kept me clear is signs of pc and undetectable for over four years now. Apc is long winded. For most of us this is a fight for life of many rounds. Besides that it sounds like he’s doing pretty well? Keep him moving and promote tranquility by any means. Take care . Welcome 🙏

I've been doing monthly 7.5mg Lupron shots for over a year now, and some are good and some not-so-good... with the worst, I get swelling in my right ankle for a few days, and a palpable knot at the injection site that hurts for about a day. I can't imagine what a 30mg shot would be like-- probably multiply the SE's by 4x. Thankfully, only four more to go-- done in Sept.

take a rest for a few months, IHT-intermittent hormone therapy, then when his psa goes up to 3 or4, go back on monthly injections, and when psa goes down to to its lowest level for two months, stop and repeat as psa rises again.

Been on six-month Lupron shots since 2017 with no problems -- except once. A nurse (who I think was flummoxed by the mixing routine) shot it into my hip joint, rather than the muscle. I had deep pain along my femur for a couple days followed by limp-worthy hip-joint pain for a couple weeks. Still silenced the PSA, however.

We thought a miss shot could be the problem. Md said it is very rare to have such a localized allergic reaction. No fun. But almost done!
