LAMOTRIGINE ER

Hi,

Been on ADT for more than 10 years, Memory loss most likely due to the applicable drugs has reached alarming levels and my MO has referred me to a neurologist who has prescribed LAMOTRIGINE. Currently I am on Lupron + Avodart + Zytiga + Prednisone + Metformin, Anyone here on this forum familiar with Lamotrigine? It's usually used for seizures. I have been tested for Alzheimer's and I Don't have that disease.

Lamotrigine is an anti convulsant medicine used to treat seizure disorder. Lamotrigine is also a Mood Stabilizer used to treat mood disorders such as Bipolar Disorder. Lamotrigine also acts as MILD antidepressant.

I do not understand why your Neuro prescribed you Lamotrigine for memory loss. Its not prescibed for memory loss. Something does not seem right here.

Do you have symptoms of depression ? One of the symptom of clinical depression is forgetfulness. Your Neuro may be trying to treat clinical depression. But, Lamotrigine for depression is still an inappropriate medicine. You should see a psychiatrist to get accurate treatment if you have symptoms of depression or mood swings.

Michael Jackson would have been alive today if he chose a psychiatrist to treat his sleep problem. Unfortunately he chose a cardiologist who did not know how to treat insomnia with right medicine ,ended up using propofol causing Michael's death. Choose right specialist for each condition.

MJ asked his high paid dr to put him to sleep for three days? Wtf? Who would want yo be the guy that killed a superstar for some money?? 😩

I am 83, up to now I have kept a very busy and challenging life, I used to read much about various subjects but because I also have Macular Degeneration, reading small print has become a challenge. I also feel that I have lost much interest in many things but I am not depressed and do not go though many mood swings.

About 5-6 months ago, I went through a spell in which my memory went to an all-time low and one time my daughter thought that I was acting funny and that I had a seizure and perhaps she told the doc about that incidence and perhaps that is the reason the medicine was prescribed. It might be coincidental but I've been taking lamotrigine for about a month and I feel that my memory, is still bad but has improved a bit, although I have cut the dosage in half after reading up on it. I have an appointment with the neuro next month and will run this through her to see what she says. Thanks for the replies

Now it makes sense to me. You had " a seizure like " episode and that led the doctor to prescribe you Lamotrigine. Next time, if anything like that happens, ask your daughter to take a video of the actual episode ,so the doctor can verify that it was really a seizure.

Sorry to hear about your current health issues. I have a few suggestions:

1--A few years ago I had a gram positive infection in my left eye that resulted in blindness in that eye. About fifteen years ago I experienced a detached retina in my right eye which barely allows me to meet the minimum allowable for driving (The California DMV makes me take an actual behind the wheel driving test and a rules of the road written test every two years!). I also love to read. My workaround is a program called Voice Dream, a text-to-speech program that allows me to download books in EPUB format which plays books to me: it's great, look into it.

2--Both my mother and grandmother had Alzheimer's disease. Rather than wait around for that to happen, I do these things:

2.1 Walk briskly for an hour seven days a week

2.2 Work out in a health club three times a week

2.3 Mix a tablespoon of cacao into my oatmeal with breakfast

2.4 Take Huperzine A : 200mcg per capsule. Huperzine A helps prevent the breakdown of choline, one of the brain’s key neurotransmitters (Wang, 2009). It has also been shown to improve memory in human trials and increase neurogenesis in animal trials (Ma, 2013). AND Life Extensions MacuGuard.

2.5 Nattokinase An enzyme that helps keep arteries clear of fibrin.

In short, try to do whatever you can to keep your vascular system (including the eyes, which have poor circulation as it is) open.

Nal , in two months I’ll be five years in.. 4 1/2 with 3 T and no signs of pc on scans ... first double adt until orchiectomy now still on the tak stopping adrenal production . My mo has no suggestions of a change of course . He actually told me “ No one knows what to do with you now .....if I stop tak ,I’ll need to inject t ,if the pc race back over me it would be foolish for me to do ... If I dropped tak then I will be dropped from the thorough tri monthly testing I receive . This same Dr . Hanni Babaker mo and hemotologist told me a year back jokingly “ you’re cured”... but stay the coarse seems to be my path for now ,for how long? Only God knows !I pray that you’re well and warm and fishin everyday .. Shalom .🎣

Could you have a vit B12 deficiency? That is known to cause cognitive issues. I take a sublingual supplement ... when I can remember to take it!
