Emerging hyperpolarized MRI techniques increased the sensitivity of MRI by up to five orders of magnitude.

A "first in humans" study involving 31 patients with very early prostate cancer disease was reported about 4 years ago. The on-site production of and the imaging agent delivery/detection constraints within only a matter of a relatively few seconds was a tricky issue.

Work also continues at UCSF on similar technology for related applications involving other body systems, along with periodic Workshops on the status of research.

ctarleton, any opinions on when you think this might be ready for general use?

I personally think it could still be years away from final approval trials in humans (vs. mice/rats) and any U.S. FDA approval(s) for specific uses. But, I'm no doctor or specialist researcher.

UCSF is having another annual Conference in March 2019, for those who may be really interested.
