Reaction to Fentanyl Patch
I get little skin irritation areas that scab up, but it's not as broad as a rash. For me, it's innocuous enough to just livd with it (and the Oxy does it too, anyway).
Thanks Yost.I didn't have any issues with the oxy other then the drugged out feeling. The rash was all up and down my arm so my onc nurse suggested taking it off and trying a different site too be sure it wasn't from treatment the day before. sure enough this morning it was all on my chest. I've never had any allergic reactions from any kind of medication I'm sure it's a combination of everything . Now I'm on morphine sul er 15 mg so far so good with it .And the weather has finally changed here in Maine got to 89 degrees here !!!!!
Hubby, stage 4 w/extensive bone mets - was on Fentanyl 75 - every 48 hours - Now down to Fentanyl 12 every 72 hours and pain is nil - He doesn't even ask if it's "patch day"anymore as he doesn't have the pain - He'll be off Fentanyl completely in another month - the herbal teas I make him must be having a major effect as it's only since I began giving him the Essiac and Cat's Claw (no cats involved, it's an herb from Peru a/k/a Una de Gato) - We've just about eliminated all pain meds, even the morphine - Please see my answer to others concerning Fentanyl - I'll be happy to share the recipe/formula - It's easy and it's cheap, and it has helped my husband and many others - look it up on the net but purchase your herbs/teas locally, not from big commercial business - Hope this helps. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.
Yes from shortly after starting use. I put the patches on my upper chest and alternate sides each time I change patches. I use aloe lotion for relief from the itching after removing a patch when a rash has developed. The fentanyl patches have allowed me to go off Hydromorphone except for occasional break through pain , and I have less foggy headedness. Improved my quality of life.
Do you have a similar problem with other kinds of patches? It might not be the fentanyl but the adhesive or patch material that is causing the trouble.
Minor rash, just kept moving it around every time, can’t take it now because it interferes with my Xtandi, had tried hydocodone with the Xtandi but that had a real bad reaction,so had to go to morphine for the Mets pain.
I got hit pretty hard with the fentanyl 50mg per hour patch.
Anxiety, restlessness, constipation, depression, insomnia and malaise were just some of the nine side effects I had. I slowly reduced the dosage down to zero and now insomnia is about all that is left.
I was prescribed the fentanyl prior to having radiation to eliminate tumor material from pressing on a nerve causing a lot of pain. Unfortunately, the oncologist never followed up to see if the radiation was effective and just left me on the fentanyl.
The side effects after about a month made me so miserable that I took a chance and began the dosage reduction. Now I have very little pain; the radiation was successful, and the fentanyl side effects are fading away.
