Astragalus is an adaptogenic that may help regulate the immune system.

When my wife was diagnosed with a second plasmacytoma in 2015 she also came down with shingles. A month later, she went to her doctor with intense vagus nerve pain. Without discussion, the office called an ambulance & we spent an entire day in ER hell while they tried to prove she was having a heart attack. Doped up with morphine & still in intense pain, she was admitted to hospital for "pain management" & spent 4 days there. With a combination of hydromorphone & gabapentin, I was able to get her released, but the pain was barely under control.

From what I knew of plasmacytoma, an over-reactive immune system might be involved. On the other hand, shingles emerges when the immune response is low. Ultimately, we decided to use astragalus & the shingles disappeared. She still takes it. Is that a good idea for someone who might be on the way to multiple myeloma? I don't know.

And is it useful for PCa?

ProstaCaid contains it [1].

As does "SH003" [2].

& Equiguard [3].

"Formononetin is an O-methylated isoflavone isolated from the root of Astragalus membranaceus." [4].

Although I am very impressed with astragalus, the only immunomodulatory product I use is PSP50, from turkey tail mushrooms:

(Be wary of other products.)

Hi Patrick,

Integrative oncologist Donald Abrams recommended Host Defense's product with 17 (I think) Asian mushrooms to me, 11 years ago. He recommended it for immune support. I don't have the bottle with me on my travels (back in 6 days) but it may be called My Community. Have you considered any Host Defense products instead of or in addition to PSP50? Thank you.

Neal,

In spite of the Paul Stamets name, the Fungi Perfecti Host Defense products are just powdered products. You will get no details of an extraction process, because there isn't one

There is a heat process, but this is not standard for breaking down the chitin that protects mushroom cells. Chitin is the same stuff as found in shrimp & lobster shells. Impossible for the body to break down.

Thanks very much, Patrick. I'm switching to PSP50. And maybe I should stop chewing up shrimp shells & tails.

Neal

Patrick, I wish your wife good health.
