Hello All:

Over the course of the last couple of months, the subject of using ChatGPT to help us with our jobs has become quite popular. So, I've started learning more about it, and a question quickly formed in my head- how could those of us with ADHD utilize CharGPT to make our lives better?

I'm just starting my research, but I have figured out ways to make my job search, and the creation of my company, easier through the use of ChatGPT.

For those not familiar, ChatGPT is defined as,”an artificial intelligence chatbot based on a large language model which enables users to refine and steer a conversation towards a desired length, format, style, level of detail, and language” (Wikipedia).

I have currently used it to help create a better resume, cover letter, thank you for an interview letter, and wording that will be used in my upcoming new website- so mainly for professional reasons, and am now looking into ways to use it in my personal life. Any suggestions? Plus, should I learn of any new hacks, I'll def share here.

I don't use it because I don't think that is beneficial to us... It can give you some answers that you didn’t create, you'll always now that it isn't truly your work. To me I feel like is cheating and afterwards I'd feel bad like I'm not smart enough to do it on my own and it'll hurt my self steem. Also one of the best things that we have is how creative we are, that make us unique and to me those things kill your creativity. The good thing that I can think of is that it can be good answering those weird questions that we are debating when we are supposed to be sleeping.

LOL, i agree- imagine when imposter syndrome sets in and your sitting at a job that you are not qualified or authentically matched for, and completely overwhemed!! yikes!

my daughter is in college for creative writing n for fun showed me how easy it is for students to use AI to write papers. I was in shock! She does not use AI for the obvious reasons ( she has ADHD and is also a product of my parenting).

AI is what is claims to be. Artificial! which means fake. some people are comfortable with that some of us are not. there are pros n cons of both- we all gotta determine what is most in line with our values n stay the course.

that is how we learn to develop our character, be comfortable n confident in our own skin. That is a key element of harnessing our ADHD and loving life.

ive personally worked so hard to accept n love my authentic self- using AI to falsely present or market myself so that i can deceive others to be attracted to my mind, capabilities, etc would be a significant set back. ❤️

Great post.

"I have currently used it to help create a better resume, cover letter, thank you for an interview letter, and wording that will be used in my upcoming new website."- so mainly for professional reasons, and am now looking into ways to use it in my personal life.

Can you share more about what prompts you are inputting to get the best results?

I really like this idea of using technology to move us forward, or at the very least, using technology to compete in a very stressful job market. I love how you have used AI to your advantage. and what are the results like?

good question:

"and now looking for into ways to use it in my personal life."

before, I offer suggestions that are more in line with my personal current life goals; can i ask you what three area of your personal life would like to see the greatest improvement in?

I used chat GPT to write motivation letters, I ask it to not exaggerate or lie, but it formulates better things I wanted to say and brings light on stuff I haven't seen. I am also someone who fears AI but once it helps you getting a job you know you are suited for, it would be stupid not to use it. I believe many jobs we can do, but can't even get an interview.

People thought the calculator would make us stupid too. AI is just a tool. garbage in, garbage out.

I spend a lot of time in ChatGPT, testing ways it can make tasks easier. One way I used it was to take my many bags of “important mail” and input the action needed in association with each piece. Then I had AI make a game for me to complete a certain amount of items in a set amount of time. I used it like my own personal coach and cheerleader. I can even tell it to use the tone of Andy Taylor, so I feel all warm and fuzzy. :)

Can you say more about how you set up AI to help you with your email? What prompts did you use?

I haven’t used it with email yet. Just snail mail, like bills, and other random stuff I’m supposed to tend to. :) But I am thinking of how to use it with email, because I have bags of emails too, metaphorically speaking. My inbox has over 100 unopened emails. I am currently thinking of a way to use Zapier with ChatGPT to clear that list. I know there’s a way!

I got excited about AI for writing a while ago. I’m in favor of it for all the boring stuff we’re constantly expected to generate. So much of having ADHD is struggling to jump though meaningless hoops to keep up with neurotypical expectations. Would I use it to write a screenplay? No. To write boilerplate promotional materials or respond to mountains of email? Yes.

I wasn’t able to find other great uses for it though. I’ve asked it questions about some of the software I use. I’ve used it for cooking. The problem is that the dataset is always about a year old and also since it’s aggregating data as opposed to really knowing anything (unlike a calculator) it can get stuff wrong in a way that I found annoying. I do think AI has to be edited - kind of like spell check is great but you still need to give it a once over yourself. Curious to hear what you come up with.

AI has helped me organize my thoughts and ideas to be able to present them more professionally. I have used it to outline numerous ideas where my brain could not get it in order!

I use a website called goblin.tools to help me reword emails, create to do lists by breaking down tasks into smaller steps, and a bunch of other stuff. I can brain dump into it and it will create bullet lists for me.

It doesn't do my work for me, but it does stop me spending 3 hours obsessing, overthinking and rearranging sentences, and getting stuck on how to end an email appropriately. I often get stuck on the insincere fluff that NT folk like to use in work emails so this eliminates that issue for me so I don't come across as either too blunt/rude or too waffly.

I work with young people, many who are undiagnosed ND. I often suggest they utilise it to help with their executive function, planning and communicating.

I also use regular AI to create social media posts for work. If my manager and colleagues don't want the responsibility of making posts, then me using AI is their only alternative.

It's honestly been a game changer for me.

Someone who was proof reading an article I'd written for a newsletter passed it through AI so it was using my words but optimising them. I didn't end up going exactly with anything it had created but there were useful bits of phrasing that I altered in my own text etc and it was good to know if had basically used my own content for it rather than me asking it to write something for me.

I am a chronic over thinker/rearranger too so I may try it with some emails too and see what comes out.

That's exactly how I use it. I pick and choose which bits I find useful and discard the rest. Often it's down to whether or not it sounds like something I would write or say myself and if it accurately expresses what I'm trying to convey. And how weary I am at that point.

That obsessive rearranging is the bane of my existence!
