Finding the right housing solution for ADHD

I am 29 years old and have a huge problem being financially independent and standing on my own. I take Adderall 30mg XR for the past 10 years (it helps). I also just finished EMDR therapy which was helpful for my PTSD. My biggest problem now is finding the way to generate enough income to be fully independent . I often lack motivation and self-control and have trouble with self care (cleaning, doing laundry and etc.). I am still living with my parents (who are very supportive) and totally depended on them for money. Is there a way for me to find an affordable place to live ( I can't even afford a small room in a basement for $600 right now). Where should I start? Is there special apartments that are ADHD friendly? Facilities that can provide a medical assistance and mental health assistance on site and life couching?

Well good start on completing EMDR therapy. Now you need a therapist that you go to and work on practical goals. One, you work on removing all the negative attitudes and fears of building/rebuilding your life. But two, you literally also work on "OK, this week, you make 5 phone calls to this place, that place, and the other place ... asking for a program that fits your needs."

The therapist will be able to help you think about the good steps to take. (Of course, you gotta find a good therapist that you really like.) If you really got along well with your EMDR therapist, ask that person for a suggestion and tell them about the next steps you want to take.

Bottom line is it's best to have an outside accountability system going on. The therapist will point out each week the positive steps you've taken to even find out what you need. The trick here is you have to start giving yourself credit for taking action, not just action that produces the end results. But just taking action, constructive action.

Could take weeks or months to find the person who refers you to another person who knows of a program that is perfect for you in finding an affordable place to live and building self care. And again, once you have your living place, you will want another system in place to gradually get better at laundry and the like. And again, you won't magically change overnight, but you can take the small steps that lead to transformation.
