Pathology Question ????

Questions on pathology report from johns hopkins. .......I had pathology reports from local hospital, 12 core needle biopsy cores were listed a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h, i, j,k,l, cores A, D showed gleason 3+3= 6 .08, <5 %- E, showed atypical rest of cores showed benign......harvard pathology report showed a atypical on A, but gleason 3+3=6 .o8 <5% on D and E... So sense there was a discrepancy I had doctor send to johns hopkins. , They conferred core A , gleason 3+3=6 .o8 <5 on A , E. and G but did not list anything on B,D,F,H,J,L,. but did list C, I, K... benign ... Can anyone explain why they would not list those cores ?????.. He also list the word Atypical in all positive cores I thought that meant they could not determine if that core was cancer ..

Thanks,

David R King

I'm not a physician. I had biopsies at Hopkins. My report also said, "atypical" for some of the cores. My Hopkins uro said that meant that the cells were "funny looking," but not cancerous. I'd talk with your uro or get in touch with Epstein at Hopkins and get clarification of what the hell they're talking about.

You might want to ask for an "Oncotype Dx" of your most recent biopsy. It's a test that will tell you the likelihood of the cancer being aggressive.

Good luck to you.

I do not know what type of doc reviews the specimen. FYI: I was dx in 2011 and had the onotypeDX performed in 2014. The results were that I was in the "very low risk" category; "a likelihood of favorable pathology" at 81%. One question to ask is how long is this assessment valid? Basically, how long is it good for?

Things changed in 2018 and I had treatment for my PC.

Hope you have better luck than I did! (Although 7 years of non-intervention was/is fine with me!)
