No! But I still have some difficulty in eating - chewing and swallowing. Whilst I get used to it, my mealtimes take longer than they used to.

I had a lot of trouble during the early months/years after my op. As i have mentioned before I had three neuromas on the left side and the resultant paralysis on the left meant my larynx didn't close off when I swallowed. I used to choke when swallowing and even long enough for me to black out. So I had to train myself to chew and swallow on the right side. Its very rare I get caught out now, probably about five years since my last bad episode.

Hello there. I can certainly relate to a strange sensation of the tongue, at least on the AN side. I had LINAC radiosurgery 2 years ago. My tongue, inside my cheek and upper gum tingles, smarts or feels as if I`ve had a local anaesthetic which is wearing off! It does get a bit uncomfortable when I`m eating. My sense of taste isn`t as good as it used to be. At present my AN is still growing despite the treatment. I am taking the steroid Dexamethasone to try to reduce the swelling.. I`m hoping it will behave itself soon! Good luck, keep well. Maggi.

Despite my three neuromas removed in 1987 that tongue thing luckily I seem to have avoided. I expect yours will improve very slowly over time and one day you'll realise you don't have that sensation any more. Facial nerves regrow very slowly and after 25 years mine still improves a bit each year. Best wishes, Keith

Yes. This was the first side effect that I experienced after my treatment last year. I had six weeks of fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy in Oct/ Nov 2011 but the problem with my trigeminal nerve didn't surface until the following April. My tongue feels like it's burnt all the time and I also get little stabbing pains. Unfortunately this was just the start - I do hope that your tongue problems don't follow the pattern of mine. I'm having a lot of pain on the side of my face and in my mouth which despite lots of medication still isn't under control. I'm hoping that the pain management clinic comes up with a magic solution! Best wishes.

It started slowly like a sugar or fake sugar taste or sensation every night then it became worse and during the day, now I notice a gray film build up that makes it worse ! I brush it off but the problem is still there just not as intense but then slowly gets worse again. I'm going crazy thei sensation feels like I burnt my tongue it affects everything I eat and only goes away once and a while it is there more than not and is getting worse and no one has a clue!
