How do I decide which treatment option is best for me?

If you had a choice of treatments why did you decide to go with the one you settled on? Do you regret your choice?

I was told there are 3 options but it depends on the size of the tumour, mine is classed as medium but as there is already some pressure on the brain stem I'm to have radiotherapy, just a one off dose, I'm happy with that although somewhat worried about the fact that the tumour swells a bit for a few months after the dose as it is already causing me a few problems. I certainly didn't want to have surgery if I could avoid it and the wait and see wasn't suitable for me. I think it's entirely up to you which you choose, did they give you any leaflets about any of the treatments? The BANA have some info on their website about treatment, good luck with your choice and the treatment and wish me luck for mine should have it in November xx

Like most AN people I agonized over this for months. Being 68 y.o. I was hoping that watch and wait would be good for my lifetime; alas, it has grown in the 7 months since being diagnosed. The neurosurgeon I have been referred to made the decision for me. That took a lot of pressure off me. I know we all do a lot of research and seek others opinions; I believe in the final analysis you need to trust the Dr. He does both microsurgery and Gamma Knife, he decided, I guess, that because mine is still small 11mm x 6mm (8mm x 4mm in May 2012 when diagnosed with MRI) that radiation was best for me.

At least knowing that it has been decided and will be done and how has brought quite a bit of relief. I will not (I pray) need to worry about will a procedure be this year or next year or when or how.

The neurosurgeon practises in another province, we live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, he is in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I will see him in the spring for a consult and then have the GK a few days later.

Regards,

Dave
