Question about pre op timescales

Hello all. I have been given a pre op appointment for March which is later than I anticipated and no exact date as yet for surgery. Does anyone know the timescales between pre op and surgery? And does a pre op include a MRI? I’m under kings. Many thanks for your assistance x

Hi.. I’m under Kings too & had surgery last April.. my pre-op assessment was done over the phone (as was everything due to covid!) just over 2 weeks before my op, but I did have a date for it at that point. I think ordinarily if you attend the hospital for a pre-op you may well have an MRI, but I didn’t, they only had one scan that was done at my local hospital. I had to do some pre-op things myself at home such as the MRSA swabs, then I was admitted the day before my operation when bloods etc were taken.. it was all pretty strange due to the covid. I spoke with one surgeon over the phone but didn’t actually meet my neurosurgeon until I was lying on the trolley outside the operating theatre!! All went well & I’ve recovered fairly adequately. Good luck with your op. It’s a nasty tumour to have. B x

Is the Radiotherapy not an option at all?

Hi, I’m under Kings and had my surgery 4 weeks ago. I was given pre op MRI with contrast appointment before my surgery date but then my surgery date came through before the scan was done. My surgery date came through quickly and my pre op checks were a combination of in person at the hospital (MRSA swabs, ECG, bloods) and all neurosurgeon consultations in person but some telephone appointments like anaesthetist check, medical history etc. You will also be sent a PCR Covid test to complete at home 3 days prior to admission. I was admitted the same day as my surgery. Good luck going forward and you are in really safe hands at Kings.

Hi there, everyone has a different experience but my surgery was successful and my recovery is thankfully going well and I’m feeling positive. I do get tired but the nurse told me last week that 3 months is usually when most people will feel much better. I walk every day to build up my strength and I’m starting physio soon as well. I found waiting for my surgery was far harder than recovery. Hoping all goes well for you. x
