I've got January 21 as a date for op to remove my AN.

How long does the operation take on average?

Good morning thetocs

There are so many variables in this - the size and position of your tumour; the type of surgery you are going to have ( translabyrinthine, middle fossa or suboccipital); what they find once they get to the site of the tumour and start to remove it; etc.

I think your best option is to speak to your cosultant or, if that is not possible, to your specialist nurse at the hospital where you are due to have your surgery. As you are in the UK, you should have been given contact details.

I belong to an AN support group and the members who've had surgery to remove their tumours say they were in surgery for hours - of course you won't be aware/awake for most of it, it's your loved ones who will have to anxiously wait!

Wishing you all the best,

Tabby

9 hours to remove my three in my left ear in 1987. Sounds like no improvement in techniques after all these years. K

Oh! I’m so glad to hear this, was wondering how it went. All the v best.

My appt on 15th with pvt consultant went well. Well hrs journey (costing a bit), but 20 mins in & out with Dr. Said unlikely to be AN but agreed I needed a MRI. Date 23/11/20.

Unfortunately in last week suddenly right leg went numb. Also have vvbad water retention (oedema) - about + 14 cm around waist & hips at end of day! Don’t know if it’s all part & parcel of this, my MS or something different! And of course with Covid so difficult to get Drs to look at anything. Had taken trip to A&E & got a weeks steroid!

The journey into unknowns continues.
