My wife had gamma knife radiotherapy on her AN in September last year. She has had a maseteric nerve transfer for her facial palsy and has had a weight fitted in her eyelid as it was not closing properly. The more I hear about this condition the more I realise how individual the symptoms are, best of luck with yours, it’s always good to talk

Hi. I had a 2cm AN removed 4 years ago. The scar discomfort and dry eye have gradually got better as each year passes. It is very slow but is improving. I also think you get used to adapting to the new reality and so you don’t notice it as much. I find keeping busy but making sure I get plenty of rest helps - so an active day of cycling followed by a more restful day otherwise symptoms stack up. Good luck!

Hello! I am sorry you are going through this difficult time. I had AN surgically removed 10 years ago. My doc said it would be a “small bump in the road” and my life would go on as before. I was not prepared for very long and difficult recovery from that surgery. It was rough! I had significant facial paralysis and the dry eye was very painful. Initially the doctor minimized the complications but eventually recommend that I use Lacri- lube ointment in the eye and to tape it shut to sleep. It helped. I found that Press and Seal food wrap adhered to the skin and held it closed while I slept. It came off without pulling my skin and eyelashes Sustain Ultra eye drops helped too. The eye is much better now, I use an eye drop very infrequently. The facial paralysis is much improved as well. People I have met recently have told me they don’t notice it. Hang in there. Time heals and we adapt to a new normal. I hope you feel better soon!
