I have been on Prozac for many years, off and on. Been taking them currently for nearly two years but they don't seem as affective now.

Maybe go back to your GP and talk it through and see whether its best to take something else. That is more effective than what your on now

take care :)

This happened to me. Been on SSRIs for 10 years since age 17 (now 28). When I tried Prozac at 23 at first I was amazed, felt it was the best I'd taken, most energising. And then after a year or so felt effect wore off. I got switched to Paroxetine. For a couple of years. Then came off it when I became pregnant, had a relapse and needed another SSRI. Prozac is the most suitable in pregnancy so was put on that. I got the same feeling of it working again (although dont get me wrong , Im not 'cured' I still cry and get down more than most I think but I can reasonably function). So basically from my expereince maybe you need a break from Prozac for a few years (go on another SSRI) and then go back on it.

But please put this to your doctor dont take my word for it. This is just my experience.

Hi, yes I agree with both replies, I found Prozac useful for several years, it enabled me to feel happy and so function much better which made me feel better still but then when a whole series of stresses made me feel depressed again Prozac wasn't helpful but a milder med was. After another good period I've had a fairly lengthy period of depression that I'm still in to some extent but am now able to cope with the feelings better because of other changes in my life. Hope you feel better soon, Suex
