Hi All, I'm new here. For the past 2 weeks I've been feeling really down, super tearful, like I've been crying for no reason whatsoever. I used to go to the gym at least 5 times a week and I've not been once this past week, I just don't see the point. I've been going to bed as soon as I've got home from work because I just don't feel I have the energy to do anything, and I'm so tired. At the moment I just feel empty and numb. I've got a doctors appointment a week on Tuesday, I guess my worry is, what if this isn't depression. What if it's not that easy to put a label on it and know how to work on feeling better?

Hello Laura--J

I'm so sorry you are feeling the way you are but please understand your not alone I for one feel like you are now I've experienced all your symptoms for years as it is typical depression your symptoms are the same as most people who suffer with it but I'm not a doctor I can't diagnose you so the appointment you have with your doctor make sure you attend its very important to go because you may need medication for a short while just to help you get back on your feet.

With you saying it's been for the last 2weeks has something happened within your everyday life such as a split from a partner, a loss, or are you just feeling low...because you go to the gym 5 days a week and haven't been for the last week don't be hard on yourself because you are feeling down it does make you feel like you have no will to go out socializing or wanting to do anything my heart goes out to you please let us know how you get on I've sent you the Samaritans email link and phone number they are extremely helpful I've rung them a few times and they've understood everything I'm going through and are brilliant at supporting us

Take care

Thank you for your reply Nat!

No nothing in particular had happened, I've been trying to put my finger on something that could have triggered it, but I can't think of anything, I do know that my mum and grandma both have depression and I've heard genetics can make you more susceptible to it affecting you, I'm just looking forward to getting an answer!

And thank you for the contact information for samaritans, I think they'll come in useful x

Your very welcome Laura--J

Depression doesn't necessarily need a trigger it can just suddenly sneak up on you and its not very nice at all just take things day by day talk to your mum and your nan they will understand just take baby steps you will pick up again and when your Dr does diagnose depression and you start to take your medication it takes a while to get in your system so please just persevere with them they can help a lot mine help me tremendously you will get there in time you can pm me anytime we are all here for you you've certainly come to the right place

Love Nat xxx
