🤔 Menopause can cause palpitations (feeling your heart beating faster than usual) due to the changing hormone levels. This can sometimes happen during hot flushes. Palpitations are usually harmless.

Symptoms: Mood swing; Hot flash; Vaginal dryness

Your doctor might prescribe medicines such as beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers to keep your heart in its normal rhythm. Some women find that hormone replacement therapy decreases their palpitations, as it treats other symptoms of menopause like hot flashes and vaginal dryness.

Hi, Many years ago I started having so called palpitations. They were very unnerving and took my breath away. I saw a number of doctors in my surgery but each time they listened to my heart with a stethoscope the strange movements didn't happen. I was sent away saying it wasn't anything to worry a out. On one particular visit my old doctor sat for much longer listening, and hey presto he said... "I've got it"! It was such a relief that he had picked it up. He referred me to a caardiologist who found I had two leaky heart valves. I was put on the appropriate medication and have rarely experienced those awful sensations since. I am now 76 and remember how uncomfortable those feelings were.

I would ask to be referred to a specialist to put your mind at rest.

It can be that your potassium is low or magnesium too. Get all your vitamins & minerals checked. Also an endocrinologist can check your hormones. RBC Magnesium Test is the Best, it tests in the cells where it matters.

Hi Kapoole,

I am in perimenopause and started havimg palpitations daily about a year ago. I am currently on 7.5 mg Bisoprolol with a low heart rate but my blood pressure occasionally spikes to really high numbers. I didn't have these problems before peri menopause. I dont care so kuch about the other symptoms(hot flashes, vaginal dryness, urinary incontinemce insomnia.etc).. but the palpitations are the most stressful and scary symptom..
