Colposcopy/biopsy

Hi everyone!

So I had a Pap smear 1 year ago which showed the hpv virus. I just had a follow up one and the hpv is still detected so now my gp is sending me for a colposcopy and biopsy.

Has anyone had a colposcopy/biopsy? What is it like? How does it compare to having a Pap smear?

I’m so anxious about having this done, any advise is much appreciated!

Thanks!

🙂 You can do a search to see previous discussions, type Colposcopy in the above search box.

I was referred for an urgent colposcopy for suspected cervical cancer ( not smear related) but the Dr couldn't do it as was to painful, I had an MRI instead which was normal.

I had the same thing a few years back. The colposcopy is a little uncomfortable, since they literally have to scrape cells off of your cervix. But it was just a little bit of pain and I was sore for a few days after. The procedure only took maybe 20 minutes and the nurse practitioner who did mine explained the entire process before she started. Its nothing to be worried about :)
